In past couple days, LSU has lost 3 from their defensive front 7 2-deep. LaCouture was their most experienced DL guy, Washington a back-up at DE/OLB, and Corey Thompson had bulked up from S to ILB. First 2 out for season, other one for several games.

Living here in Baton Rouge, I get tired of hearing LSU fan b.s., but I still want them to be able to beat FLA, Bama and Ole Miss.

That's life. As a fan of the VOLS.. you should know first hand injuries can make life hell during camp.

If LSU is as deep as some say.. next man up, right?

LSU is not at all deep at LB. Especially since they are switching to a 3-4. These injuries leave them with kiddie pool depth at that position.

It's unfortunate but I get the feeling this season isn't going to end well for LSU. They need all the bodies they can get. All I hear about is how talented and deep they are, and how good they are on ESPN and I just don't see it. Fournette will be targeted all year.

I lived in Baton Rouge from 1982 thru 1986....I loved it, although LSU was down in those days

Yea, it's been a brutal week, injuries always seem to come in waves. Actually the OL is nicked up pretty bad as well, but nothing season ending. Les kept saying they were worried about injuries this fall, I guess its a hard thing to avoid. On a plus note, they did get Valentine back who could come in and play NT, and possibly move Godchaux back to a more nature position of DE?? Hard to say how Thompson/Washington will impact, both were considered backups, however Washington was going to be a hell of a backup.

LSU is lacking in LB and LB depth for sure, but I feel like that is manageable as long as it wasn't Beckwith, they should just put Beckwith in bubble wrap... there is no replacement for Beckwith. The D has to get better, I don't think these are deal killers but it does hurt the overall depth and certainly doesn't help towards their goal. No reason to cry over it though, next man up.

On a similar note, formerly 5-star Tyron Johnson announced he is transferring, he's already been past up on the depth chart by the two freshman.

Depth is a problem at LB, as they just don't have the bodies, also going to a full 3-4 is also a concern as well and really the only one with experience is Beckwith.

"I just don't see it"

Well, when option 1 works about 90% of time, its really hard to gauge how good option 2,3 and 4 are. I mean which team wouldn't love to have Guice on their team? Answer, every team. It seems really easy in theory to stop the pitch dive to #7, ask Texas A&M. What LSU is doing is going to work against the vast majority of teams out there, just a matter of them improving in other areas as that isn't going to work against 5-7 teams out there.

There are some hurdles for LSU no doubt, injuries especially upfront on D certainly could be an issue. LSU's D is going to have to drastically improve from last year if they plan on making headway.

I still feel good about this year, but maybe not quite as much as before. Wisconsin don't care, next man up... no time to cry. Just my take.

My whole family is from Louisiana but my father was the rebel and went to Tennessee for his degree. Literally everyone on my fathers side are LSU alum, on my mothers side we had a few employees for the university. My entire family is obsessed with purple and gold except for me and my dad who bleed bright orange.

Lets just say when LSU plays Tennessee it gets ugly at my home.

And being from Louisiana I know just how much LSU cheats.

I HATE LSU!!!!

I'm now hearing that there is a wide out that wants out. Les has bared him from other sec schools for now. It was told to me second hand so not sure which one. Give me a little while and I'll google it. Just not in a position right now.

EDIT: Tyron Johnson

Details released on why 5-star WR Tyron Johnson is transferring from LSU

This after the wide outs that transferred earlier in the year.

Two LSU WRs, including a former top-100 recruit, will transfer - CBSSports.com

I really have no idea how you are going to win games with Harris and Fournette alone.

I said it a few posts up. Johnson has great talent but the word is he relies on raw talent alone, he was actually moving down the depth chart, word I have is at best he was 4th on the depth chart and Anderson (true freshman) may have passed him as well and he might have slipped down to 5th and Sullivan was making a case to move him further down. Chark passed him late last year and Johnson I don't even think played in the bowl game against where he is rumored to be heading... Texas Tech. I think it was unwise for him to transfer but if you ain't going to do the work, he was probably never going to move up the food chain. Both Dupre and Dural will be NFL bound. Don't get me wrong, he will probably look like a superstar at TT but at the end of the day if you don't work its probably going to cost you.

pretty much what I heard, if you don't like competition, LSU probably isn't the ideal place to go even if you are 5-star

Some of the injuries on D and some nicks on the OL have hurt, but I doubt losing Johnson will have any bearing on anything. LSU has some weak points i.e. LB corp especially with limited experience and bodies. WR is still a strength of the team for sure, just a matter of Harris being more efficient at getting it to them. Even after losing 4 WRs to transfers, I actually think LSU could make a case they have one of the better WR corps. out there. Now if Beckwith gets hurt that is a total different story.... LSU should put Beckwith in a sealed room during the week.

Its pretty much the norm that if you ask for release in the SEC they probably won't grant an in conference transfer. As far as LSU, lots of offseason changes but actually things have been rather smooth except for the injuries... but I do have a concern about the first game Wisconsin though. Really hard to say what LSU can do... I could see them running the tables still but there are some big unknowns on D.

I think Johnson should go look at tape of Guice running for LSU last year. Fournette has better physical ability than Guice, he has more skills, he has more experience, he has everyone talking about how great he is.... Guice doesn't care... Guice want's #7's job.... and he has definitely earned the right to get quite a few carries.

LSU-SIU, do you think that Les will do something to open up the offense a bit more this year?

I mean, sure, you go with bid dog Fournette early and often, but seems like they need a few more wrinkles to be a bit less predictable, make opposing defenses hesitate a little.

I don't think LSU needs to change up too much, I thought they did a good job in the bowl game of mixing up things better. There was more energy with Cam being on the sidelines. I think early in the year they need to let the team ride on Harris, even if they can win it with the ground game. I think Harris is the guy, but he has to be more efficient... he has a great deep ball but his mid range ball is so-so, his short game is horrible. Its to me about him being efficient and the WRs not dropping balls when they have the opportunity. The OL is banged up, there are some questions marks there so the first game will be interesting.

I don't think there is some magic pill, the offense needs more energy, and a little better play calling. I would like to see more Guice to be honest, he would be a better option against Bama imo.

1. Hopefully the OL gets healthy
2. Less #7 and more Guice (I don't see LSU doing squat if no. 7 gets 300 carries)
3. Harris needs to be more efficient, make a few big throws in a few games.
4. Mix up play calling a little, more energy

Its funny, LSU offense keeps getting the finger but it was the worse D and special teams I have seen there last year than I have seen in about 18 years. It is really that fact alone that I am some what (prior to the injures) encouraged by the team this year... they stunk last year more or less and only lost 3 games, with the vast majority coming back. Special teams was just a disaster for some reason, kick off coverage was just horrible to the nth degree.

I think its really hard to gauge this team at the moment. I still think they run the tables but man, that D is in a strange position... you have guys playing LB that have never played the position across the board other than Beckwith and maybe Riley.

#7 in a boot, looks like a sprain but.... :mf_surrender:

Crazy season already, the Gods are definitely not looking in their favor so far. Next thing I am going to hear is the kicker is burned in a car wreck.... oh, nevermind. lol

Maybe a little to soon on the last sentence as for the boot being on Fournette for just a sprain, sounds more like a fracture to me. I really hope not he's fun to watch.

Colin Cowherd is saying he shouldn't play another snap of college football so he won't ruin his NFL career.

When you have a lot of youth you have to work them extra hard in preseason and there are a lot of injuries that pile up. ohio state is going through the same things. A lot of injuries, especially the line. Too much youth. It will pay off in future seasons but I would not put too many expectations on this season. JMO

This is the first year in a while that LSU isn't a young team. They are only replacing four starters from last year and only had one player leave early for the 2016 draft.

Between comments like this and your never ending thesis on Bama being terrible, it's like you live in a dark alternate universe where all college football teams are the exact opposite of what they are in the real world.

From what I can gather a minor sprain but they want it to heal up i.e. boot. Doesn't appear to be a high ankle sprain which I hear can take a very long time to heal, I've never had a high one. Yea. I mean I think he is in a similar position as Clowney, meaning he could probably shut it down now and it wouldn't effect his draft status much either way... but I think they all know what is at stake this year.

LSU is going to have to get Guice, Williams, Brossette, and Ducre more involved. A little good news.... among the bad... injuries, arrests, burned victims, and flooding .... Valentine I am hearing is the real deal in practice.

Another OL out for the year, Willie Allen, knee plus surgery.
When it rains it pours...and sometimes floods. Not a good way of starting the year.

I think Willie Allen was going to redshirt this year anyway. The OL will be okay. It's the front 7 I'm worried about.

Yea. I don't think he was scheduled to see playing time, well, unless injures. The thing is though, he is missing practice time, etc.

Two weeks before the season has started and this team kind of looks like they just came back from a tour of Nam.
