BATON ROUGE, La. -- An LSU football player has been booked on second-degree battery charges after allegedly punching a man in the face at a bar near the university, police said.

Junior defensive end Benjamin Chase Pittman, 22, was released Thursday after posting a $5,000 bond. Police found a man outside the bar early Thursday with his eye swollen shut, said Sgt. Don Kelly, a police spokesman. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Pittman was not on the scene when officers arrived and was arrested later. Kelly said Pittman told investigators than a fight occurred after the man grabbed a woman's breast.

LSU sports information director Michael Bonnette said coach Les Miles would not comment about the case until after he meets with Miles.

Pittman was an all-state player at Evangel Christian Academy in Shreveport before signing with the University of Texas. He spent two seasons with the Longhorns, including a redshirt freshman year, before joining LSU last year.

This coming from a fan of the University that allowed a Cop beater to be team captain last season. Florida isn't having any problems because Zook took their balls with him to Illinois.

Dont they have to say a prayer or something to Oscar Meyer, before allowed into the facilities?

I may have misunderstood that?

I could care less about last season. This season Florida has had 0 players arrested. Refresh my memory on how many UT has had. And no, players dont have to say a prayer to Meyer before entering the locker room or something :p

From what I understand, UF's problems don't start till the frat parties when the players get smashed and try to kill themselves and each other.

Word is he got pi$$ed at some guy feeling up a woman in the bar, ALLEGEDLY against her will. I don't know the entire story. Of course we Tiger fans are trying to exonerate him as a defender of women, but honestly I don't know exactly what happened. I hope our trust is not misplaced.

I think the bottom line is that most kids ( every university included) are out of control. I know college is supposed to be a time for sowing wild oats, or having a wild hair, whatever, BUT it isn't supposed to be JUST about that. I am sometimes ashamed at the way some of our underage posters get on here and brag about having iron stomachs and getting drunk. Going to college has become nothing more than some some big Super-Party that ends up with somebody running afoul of the law. I will probably be flamed to high heaven for this post, but it's time for some behavior modification on college campuses.

We feel your pain. Schaeffer was defending his girlfriend's cell phone rights when he hit the guy from behind and Smith was helping when he kicked the guy while he was down.

How so? UF has 0 players arrested THIS season. UT- Ive lost count. Last season yes, the frat party thing, which helped zook lose his job. New coach in town, and hes doing a pretty good job. You guys can say what you want on how his system wont work in the SEC (or atleast you hope) but so far, theres not one thing negative to say about him.

UF still has more arrest this decade than UT does.

If you wanna talk about arrests from '95 be my guest. Ill stay here in the 21st century and talk about arrests over the past 12 months.

Its '05. A decade is 10 years. Subtract ten from '05. I come at 1995.

This cant be correct..I'd love to see some facts about this. UT has had more trouble this yr then the past 3 or 4 yrs combined at UF. And I expect UF's # to stay low like this yr with Meyer as coach now.
