I agree in part with the article and disagree in part.
Yes, LSU has had a couple of NFL bust, but what college team hasn't.
Russell should have never been drafted that high, he has great talent but a 2 cent head and probably half of LSU fans were ready for him to go, me included. The problem with Russell is he really didn't have competition until he reached the NFL due to his natural raw physical ability.
The other disappointment is probably Michael Clayton, what is funny about him is he was known for working very hard in college but clearly feel off the wagon after his first great year with the Bucs. If you want lazy, that's your man.
Most of the article should be, NFL scouts do a terrible job or reports have no idea what these kids can do because they don't report on them.
For example, take DE T. Jackson drafted top 5 last year, nobody was excited by his 2009 year... why? because he doesn't sack the QB, well news to everyone, he had a hard time sacking people in college, he was run stopping DE. It's not laziness, it's the inability to evaluate the player. If you are using T. Jackson to get sacks it ain't going to happen.
Another example of this would be the drafting of Marcus Spears, he exactly like Jackson, a run stopping DE. Then the fans get all mad because he doesn't rack up 12 sacks a year, well if you wanted a sack master you shouldn't have drafted him because he was never a sack master.
There are plenty of hard working LSU players in the NFL that have been there for years and maybe they don't put the great stats but they just play week-in and week-out with a hard hat.
- Josh Reed
- Kevin Faulk
- Corey Webster
- Bradie James
- Joseph Addai
- LaRon Landry (will be a great safety)
- Jacob Hester (one of the hardest working guys ever)
- Devery Henderson (has worked very hard to become a starter)
- Alan Faneca (probably one of the hardest workers in the NFL)
- Early Doucet (sorry this guy has really worked on being better, he has had to put on some serious muscle since college)
- Etc etc.
Now as far Bowe, I would compare him to Moss with not quite as much raw talent but still he is probably better physically then anyone else KC has at that position hands down. He likes to smoke.
To me it comes down to drafting and evaluation, and most of the fans have no idea why certain players are drafted where they are. It isn't all about being lazy, trying to make a player something he is not is probably not going to work.
One of the most SOLID LSU players and has worked his butt off is Kyle Williams but in Buffalo, he isn't God's gift to the world but he works his butt off trying to be the best he can.
Most of the time it's stupid fans that think someone like Tyson Jackson is going to get 15 sacks a year, if you believe that you never watched any of the games he played in.
Comparing Russell to all the rest of the LSU players is like Donte Stallworth to all of Tennessee players. Ultimately all the university can do is try and make the player as best as possible. As far as the the majority of LSU players, I feel like we have put out solid players.
The article seemed to focus in on Kansas City and LSU, well, if they are so disappointed why are they continuing to draft from LSU? I think they have 5 LSU players on the roster or practice squad. Bowe has been the best WR they had, hands down. Dorsey has been starting and he is in 3rd year now. The problem with this reporter is he expecting Michael Jordan with every 1st round pick, sorry that is not going to happen. I would say out of those 3 picks, Dorsey is the only somewhat disappointment, Bowe is actually really good the problem is he use that his advantage.... Jackson had a good rookie year.
