Would a 2 loss LSU SEC champ miss the playoffs? Theoretically there could be 2 1 loss SEC teams (us and UGA). Hard to argue 2 loss trumps 1 loss. Likely a Big 10 team or 2 with 1 loss (or one that is undefeated). ACC team with 1 loss and maybe a Big 12 with 1 or zero losses. Oregon possibly with 1 loss.

If LSU beats Bama this weekend they have the inside track to the SECCG.

LSU if they won the SECCG would miss the FBS Playoffs and probably go to the Sugar Bowl to play TCU

SEC conference champ will be in no matter what. Above us even if we were 11-1.

just seems nuts that the conf champ would miss but likely 2 other teams from the conf would go.

In this particular scenario, I think only one team would go from the SEC. So basically, whoever wins the game this week and in this timeline loses to LSU in the championship game.

To the person who said the conference champ would go if LSU. Don't think so. Remember few years ago when tOSU didn't even play in the B10 championship and still went to the playoffs over the conference winner . Pretty sure Clemson had a situation like that also.

If we lose to UGA, I would love the Sugar Bowl vs TCU. Talk about a shootout! That would likely be THE most entertaining game the entire bowl season including the playoffs.

I think a 12-1 Tennessee team would get the nod over a 11-2 SEC Champion LSU team
Depends on the outcome of the championship game. If LSU blows us out in the second game, we wouldnt go over them. Even if they just win convincingly it probably wipes out our blow out win 2 months prior from the mind of the committee.

The SEC champ will always be in the playoff with 0, 1, or 2 losses. LSU going to Atlanta means they beat two top 10 teams while opening the playoff rankings at #10

The 07/08 LSU team that had 2 losses made it to the title game and beat OSU by 14 points. The playoff didn't exist then, but they deserved to make it. Hard to deny any SEC champ a spot in the playoff.

Penn St. missed in 2016 even though they won the B10 and beat Ohio St. head to head but OSU got the nod. Granted it's not the same scenario, as we're talking 2 other SEC teams making it over them, and in this case Tennessee beat the snot out of LSU so not exactly the same thing but PSU was a 2 loss conference champion that was passed over by a 1 loss B10 team.

I don’t disagree that they’re likely better than a team like Clemson or maybe even Oregon cause I don’t think either one of those teams would get in if they played LSU’s schedule but I don’t think the committee is “smart enough” to judge it that way. IMO they would say a team with a loss to a mediocre FSU team and a blowout loss at home is trumped by a 1 loss PAC-12 champ Oregon.

Why this Thread. They play Bama. Not sure that they will win that game. Pointless thread at this moment.

Yep. Quality wins would sway heavily in LSUs favor.
If Oregon remains as a 1 loss team that means they’ve beaten UCLA, Utah, OSU and USC all currently ranked. I’m just not sure the committee leaves out a 1 loss P5 champ whose only loss was to a top 5 team on a neutral site 14 weeks ago.

They lost to a FSU team that is currently 6th in their division and got annihilated by UT at home.

I get the hypothetical scenario, but they would not get in as SEC champs.

That loss happened in the beginning of the season. They wouldn’t hold that against them. Especially having wins over #11 Ole Miss, #6 Bama and either #1 UGA or #2 TN. Yes they would get in.
