Animal rights group urges LSU not to replace live tiger mascot

ASSOCIATED PRESS

BATON ROUGE, La. --

A group of animal advocates is urging LSU not to replace its recently departed mascot with another live tiger but school officials appear unlikely to accept that idea.

"Big cats in captivity are denied everything that is natural and important to them, such as the opportunity to run, climb, hunt, establish their territory, and choose their mates," Lisa Wathne, of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, says in a letter to school officials.

"The LSU mascot is part of the LSU community, part of the LSU family; a tradition for 71 years," said Dr. David Baker of the LSU Veterinary School, who cared for Mike and was visibly shaken last week by the tiger's death from kidney failure. "And we intend to obtain another tiger."

Did she just say choose their mates? What is a tiger thinking when they choose a mate?

First, look for orange and black thing on four legs. Second, check for girl parts. It's a pretty simple procedure.

Sorry, Louisiana is not "PETA" friendly. We eat anything that dosent eat us first there. They should be happy that they take such good care of him. He lives better than most people do. LOL

Good for LSU, had they kowtowed to this, it would have been disgraceful. PETA sucks, talk about a group out of touch with reality. I love animals, and also dispatch them via bow, rifle, or shotgun for the table, and other than deer, they are harvested with the help of (as PETA sees it) their fellow animals. I also take fur, so i had to lie when i adopted 2 redbone/blue tick cross pups at the Humane Society 3 weeks ago..."Yes, they will be kept within the confines of my home and fenced yard, and not be used for work or hunting"...

Idiots, the only place for a hound is in the field, Better having one hunt and be with a good owner who takes the pup as part of the family rather than keeping it fenced in on 1/8 acre and being despised by the family for getting a lil too rambunxious...though the old lady is kinda sore as we now have 3 dogs....
