According to the LSU newspaper, www.lsusports.net was stolen from the university last week. Now, anyone trying to read stuff from the LSU website will be redirected to a GoDaddy webpage.

Now, I'm normally not one to snicker at someone else's misfortune (and I sincerely hope they get it back online soon) ...but in this case.... :birgits_giggle::rofl::post-4-1090547912:

I remember reading they forgot to pay the bill. Which would suggest that they are dumb and somebody else is smart.

Yeah, pretty sure that's a case of forgetting to pay the domain bill. Same thing happened to the Cowboys a few weeks ago. If you are going to put that much effort into a hack why would you redirect it to a GoDaddy ad?

Eh, it's not really a hack, it's someone domain squatting.

I think it's hilarious.

Someone probably noticed it expiring, pay $10 for the name. And now is willing to sell it back to them for a 10000000% profit

But seriously, how do you not just have it set up to auto bill one of the AD staffers university credit cards

There is a grace period when you forget to pay where no one can purchase the domain, even for regular Joe's like us. LSU did not lose the domain, just forgot to pay (funny as hell), so GoDaddy pointed it to a parked page as a "hey dumbass, you forgot to pay your bill" statement.

It was not so simple as not paying the bill (which is what I first thought). A WHOIS search shows that the domain was paid through 2015. Somehow, someone hacked into the LSU domain servers and redirected the links away from the university.

Thus, they aren't really 'stupid' as much as they were careless with their security.

pretty great though. Its one of those ideas you wish you had thought of and knew how to do. Like google.
