Luginbill Tweet about Dobbs

I tend to agree that Dobbs is the future. The question is: "how seriously injured is Worley" Imo, Worley will not be able to pass effectively until his thumb heals. CBJ will start the best qb we have that gives us the best chance to win. CBJ chose Dobbs over Fergy. That, in itself, should tell you something. Worley has shown vast improvement since the beginning of the season. However, he still struggles with passing (his receivers are part of this problem as well and will be Dobbs' as well. This offense needs a dual threat qb. Worley is not a dual threat qb and if his passing ability was near bray's lvl we would not be having this conversation.

Listen. I am a vols fan.
This board tends to go ballistic when a reporter says something you want to hear.

If someone on tv says something, does that make it true or more believable.

Watch Dobbs debut throws against Bama yesterday and compare to Worley's debut throws against Bama and you will no longer have any questions.

Worley did his best I respect his toughness and for helping team 117 and BJ secure the first win over a top 25 team in a long, long time. However, anyone with eyes can see that he is limited in his skill set and can only take this offense to a certain level. Dobbs has a better long term future at QB, and since we are through with the most brutal stretch of our schedule, it only makes since to let Dobbs finish the year as the starter and build for the future. Jmo.

Well said.

Bartlett:
Ferg has a leg injury and did not practice the latter part of the week and that is why Dobbs passed him on the depth chart; Ferg has been ahead of Dobbs for most of the fall; remember Dobbs didn't make the trip to Florida five weeks ago.
It has always been close between Ferg and Dobbs, and had Ferg not had the leg injury this week it likely would have been him who went in yesterday.

Before everyone goes crazy..... Ask yourself why is Tommy Lugunbill a reporter and not a coach.

Where is his experience to make a statement like this. He played QB for GT under Bill Lewis for one year. So, he is now great judge of talent.

Dobbs played 2 qtrs. Let the young man develop before making him the next Tee or Peyton.

I think you just questioned his credentials while laying out his credentials.

I ve got an idea: maybe CBJ should have his iPhone handy, and coach solely off tweets! UT could market the crap out of it, and revolutionize the game! #CoachTheVols! Think about it what a great idea! It's 4th and 13 #VolNation, what should we do? Thanks @knowitallvolfan, we will be running a flea flicker! #CoachTheVols

Let the man coach. We are paying him for a reason.

That said, dobbs will start, and CBJ doesn't need a journalist or fans to make that decision for him. He will Make the decision that is best for the team. After all he doesn't sit on a stool.

As I watched Dobbs do a very respectable job, it had me wondering how good Ferguson is since he was supposedly ahead of him.

yes, he was injured during the wk before the game. Dobbs was chosen before the injury. Fergy's injury made that decision a mute point.

That's your takeaway from his comment? I'm pretty sure he's only pointing out that Dobbs might give you more of a chance to run your desired offense.

Guess I missed the part where he called him "the next Peyton".

I say start Worley (if healthy) the rest of the year and bring Dobbs in situationaly now that we have burnt his redshirt. Kid has tons of potential.

There is a reason that we are not recruiting a QB for the 2014 class. IMHO, there will be a fierce competition next spring will for the QB job and I think it will end up being between Ferg and Dobbs for the starting job. Long term, I think it will be hard to keep all three of the young QBs, but I would hope no one thinks about a possible transfer till after spring practice.

You know what helps a player to develop? Playing time. It does wonders.

Just out of curiosity, with Dobbs ability to run and actually advance the ball down the field on one of the best defenses in college football, why not see what the kid does as the starter? Worley WILL NOT be the starting QB for this team next year. These kids have to play at some point. I see this forcing of Butch's hand as a short term problem, with long term benefits.

chief I think its a "moot" point.

Do you have anything to support your contention.

Nothing other than 2nd hand information which has been somewhat reliable thought out the yr. Coaching friends i have known for years who are closer to the situation that myself and a rabid vol fan in the form of my niece (a student at UT) who keeps up with the campus coconut telegraph. There was also an article which stated that CBJ elevated Dobbs past Fergy.

1) I really respect Worley. Not many kids would be able to go through his rollercoaster ride and be a gentleman and competitor throughout - true VFL.

2) The game was over before any of Worley's INTs, but his thumb is clearly a liability until healed. Team 117 cannot afford to lose the turnover battle if they want to win games.

3) Let's not forget the minimal amount of practice time Dobbs has gotten to date. I'm pretty sure I read that he was on scout team until Peterman went down and we all know Worley has been getting the good reps.

4) I'd love winning out - but realistically - I'd be thrilled with a bowl game. Get Dobbs in there for first team reps with aim to have him comfortable in 1 month for Vandy/Kentucky.

Woot! Even more relevance! A Quarterback controversy...nice! This'll be exciting to watch, and read about. I bet there MIGHT be a thread or 2 over the next 6 days concerning this...

Do you realize journalists can be very intelligent about sports. It's not like they guess things. They basically study it. Of course, not all reporters have that much knowledge but are just for stories. So I'm sure this guy knows a bit.

I personally think if we are deciding about starting Dobbs. Then we need to do it next game. If he doesn't work out, stick with Worley throughout. I would love to see Dobbs breakout. I know he isn't gifted like Jameis Winston but I'm sure he could be a good QB.

Really didn't want to have to burn a redshirt. This really muddies the QB situation. If only Peterman weren't injured, we could have put him in. & don't flame about the Florida game. One has to imagine that was probably flukishly bad.

Dobbs all the way now. If He puts Worley back in after burning this kids shirt, I will be amazed.

Worley is and always has been a bad qb. You cannot tell me otherwise.
