Luginbill Tweet about Dobbs

Bartlett:
Ferg has a leg injury and did not practice the latter part of the week and that is why Dobbs passed him on the depth chart; Ferg has been ahead of Dobbs for most of the fall; remember Dobbs didn't make the trip to Florida five weeks ago.
It has always been close between Ferg and Dobbs, and had Ferg not had the leg injury this week it likely would have been him who went in yesterday.

That really sucks for Ferguson...

JD has the ability to extend plays and has a good arm that will only get stronger. Football is about winning, not burning a red shirt. Backups are one play away from being the starter no matter what their class is.

He'll live. If Dobbs is the gamer he appeared to be, Fergy will wait his turn, find another place to play or keep working to push Dobbs.

Dobbs had the opportunity and ran with it. If the shoe was on the other foot, would you say the same?

Didn't want to start a thread about it, but just wanted to share that I saw Gerald Jones on campus the other day. He had a backpack on, and was looking at assignments. I guess he's finishing his degree.

Awesome story, Chris!!

With Trooper unemployed, at least we don't have to worry about GJ flipping our recruits to other schools.

It's called sarcasm people. Get over it.

Haha yeah. I don't expect anyone to believe this, but I totally heard a decent chunk of the infamous phone call, only on GJ's end though. He and D. Moore used to live close to me, and I heard him talking to the recruit because we were both outside. (assuming it was the recruit on the line, not just a friend or family)

Before everyone goes crazy..... Ask yourself why is Tommy Lugunbill a reporter and not a coach.

Where is his experience to make a statement like this. He played QB for GT under Bill Lewis for one year. So, he is now great judge of talent.

Dobbs played 2 qtrs. Let the young man develop before making him the next Tee or Peyton.
Go stand in the corner and be quiet.

Don't see where anyone is making him the next Peyton or Tee. Just see that we have a better QB than Worley, and for now that's enough.

Can we be honest for a second? Tee Martin was not a great qb in the traditional sense. He was a great college qb because he made good decisions and didn't lose games. We wouldn't have won the '98 NC on Tee's arm. The defense and the offensive players around Tee were huge. Tee's game did not translate to the NFL.

I ve got an idea: maybe CBJ should have his iPhone handy, and coach solely off tweets! UT could market the crap out of it, and revolutionize the game! #CoachTheVols! Think about it what a great idea! It's 4th and 13 #VolNation, what should we do? Thanks @knowitallvolfan, we will be running a flea flicker! #CoachTheVols

Let the man coach. We are paying him for a reason.

That said, dobbs will start, and CBJ doesn't need a journalist or fans to make that decision for him. He will Make the decision that is best for the team. After all he doesn't sit on a stool.

get over yourself

Here we go again... Tee had a cannon and was money in pressure situations. His senior year we had a serious lack of production from our WRs and missed Peerless and Copeland on offense almost as much as we missed Al Wilson on defense. Cedrick Wilson was a good reciever, but was not anywhere near effective as Price (or Stallworth and Washington after him). Our deep threat on the 1999 team was Leonard friggin' Scott for pete's sake.

Plus, he was hampered by injuries from Florida until the Georgia game in 1999. He was SEC POW for successive weeks and was the last Tennessee QB to be named 1st team All SEC.

He wasn't the most accurate passer, granted, but he was a lot faster than most give him credit for (clocked at 4.5 40 yd) and his legs saved our butts on countless occasions. Tee carried our butts for the middle part of the 1999 season on offense for the UGA, ND, and Alabama games.

Was he an NFL QB? Not really, but was still drafted and lasted longer in the league than any Vol QB that has come after him.

Isn't Luginbill Head of ESPN recruiting dept? I would guess he puts in a few hundred hours monthly studying recruits and players from a college perspective.

Luginbill watches CFB for a living. He is paid very well to know what he is talking about. I'm sure he has seen enough football over the years to have a valid opinion.

If Worley is 100% for the Mizzu game you start him. If he's not I'd start Dobbs no problem.

Not a chance. The only thing preventing Butch from starting Dobbs or Ferguson was burning the redshirt. Dobbs was used yesterday. Now it's time to see what we have in Dobbs instead of what we know we have in Worley.

Worley did his best I respect his toughness and for helping team 117 and BJ secure the first win over a top 25 team in a long, long time. However, anyone with eyes can see that he is limited in his skill set and can only take this offense to a certain level. Dobbs has a better long term future at QB, and since we are through with the most brutal stretch of our schedule, it only makes since to let Dobbs finish the year as the starter and build for the future. Jmo.

Well said. Worley is very tough mentally and physically. He should be commended for his hard work and toughness and Vol fans should be proud of him, but I think its time to give one of the freshmen a shot.

Exactly on the nail.
Worley represents this university with class and toughness and that should never go unnoticed.

Bring on the Dobbs!!!

He certainly has tools that are better suited for this offense because he's an actual run threat. Not to mention that he didn't get rattled against the best defense in the country.
