Luginbill Tweet about Dobbs

But if he is the better QB, doesn't Coach have a responsibility to the team and fans to play the best player? Redshirts are a luxury item, not a necessity. Play the best players.

If Dobbs continues to play well, it would be irresponsible to Riley, Dobbs, and the program, to burn another redshirt. Period.

Redshirts are more than a luxury. They are a year that allows a player to progress physically, mentally (and even emotionally, as they adjust to life at college and the workload of school/football). The quality of play in a player's 5th year will almost always be much better than their quality would have been in their first year.

The responsibility to "play the best player" must be balanced with the responsibility to give the player the best opportunity to be as successful as they possibly can.

:hi:

Before everyone goes crazy..... Ask yourself why is Tommy Lugunbill a reporter and not a coach.

Where is his experience to make a statement like this. He played QB for GT under Bill Lewis for one year. So, he is now great judge of talent.

Dobbs played 2 qtrs. Let the young man develop before making him the next Tee or Peyton.

Doesn't necessarily have anything to do with it. Michael Jordan was arguably the best player ever but he sucks at evaluating talent,

I'll leave the coaching up to Jones but Dobbs looked very good against the best defense in the nation. If not for a few drops, he looks even more stellar. Against any other secondary than Bama's, he probably has an even better performance.

This. Everyone seems to forget that Dobbs is 1. a true freshman 2. has been sharing 2nd team reps 3. saw his first college snaps EVER against ALA-FREAKIN-BAMA in their house and against a defense that wanted to preserve their home shutout streak.

They also wanted preserve the fact that the last 6 opponents had scored an TOTAL of 16 points (7pts was the highest). Well we got 10 with Dobbs in. Dobbs' half is equal to 62.5% of the total prior points scored on Bama. THINK about that.

And on a side note, once the offense became more effective so did our defense.

It nice to know a sideline reporter knows so much about UT. He must go to all of the practices during the week.

2 quarters in already lopsided rout don't make the next coming of Peyton and Tee.

I'm sorry, where did he say "the next coming of Peyton and Tee"?

The kid has to start playing at some point. Stop exaggerating to prove a point.

racist imo.... jk :)

Great new idea for whoever runs this site. This will probably only work for the QB position, but it will work wonders for posters here as they'll get an insight as to who is posting what. Put an automatic tag on each post. "I homered for Worley." "I homered for Peterman." "I homered for Ferguson before and after Dobbs got the call."

FYI...

@TomLuginbill: The #Vols need to go with Josh Dobbs & never look back. Build the whole offense and the future around him. They got something in that kid.

Luginbill is 100% correct. Worley should never see the field again unless there is an injury or something.

I don't know about you but I'm for UT in the present. I want to see 8-4 and a bowl victory.

Next year will take care of itself. Let's start whoever gives UT the best chance of winning out.

Don't anoint someone the next coming of Peyton, Heath, or Tee after 2 quarters in a lopsided loss.

he has risen from the dead to infom Volnation!

:lolabove: at people homering out over a guy who only got to play because everyone else was hurt.

This shouldn't even be a discussion. Worley makes HORRIBLE throws and has no arm strength whatsoever. Again, the longest pass he completed was a grossly underthrown ball to Blanc. Even the announcer said it. He can't get the ball downfield and even his intermediate balls are average at best. There is absolutely no reason to put him back in. Luginbill is 100% dead on. Dobbs came in and engineered two scoring drives, made accurate throws(had 2 drops that I know of), showed the ability to scramble, completed a huge 4th and 3, and showed poise...all in his first step out onto a college football field, on the road against the #1 team in the country. Do you know how much pressure that is??? And he showed no signs of nervousness and played almost perfectly under the circumstances. If you want Worley in there moving forward, you seriously need some medication or to follow a different sport.

I'm sure when CBJ wants Luginbills advice he'll call him, till then shut the h3!! up and let CBJ do what he is suppose to do.

If CBJ thinks it's Dobbs then he will play him, however till Ferguson got a little banged up last week he was #2. I could live with either that gives us the best chance in these last 4 games.

Ok, so reporters aren't supposed to give our players compliments?

No wonder everyone hates us.

A .500 season with a burned redshirt. Time for Worley to assume backup position. Worley isn't our long term QB and with the season already gone, let Dobbs put the time in and develop.

Dobbs looks like a QB that can run the read option and be a threat to run

Worley just wasn't a threat to run, which kind of puts us at a disadvantage in the read option

I do feel bad for Worley. He tried his best and played hard. He's just not cut out for this offense

I agree CV. When the other team knows that the QB in our read option offense NEVER keeps the ball, there is not much of an option there. We have no element of surprise, so they go straight for the RB. Dobbs at least gives us that threat.

Worley earned my respect with his play during the GA and SC games. However, if Worley is not COMPLETELY healthy, Dobbs needs to start considering we just burned his RS.

On another note, we saw how far we still have to go this past weekend. However, I am extremely excited about our future with CBJ and staff at the helm!!!

GO VOLS!!!

Really?? Do you know anything about football bro?!? Did you watch Dobbs and his throws that had zip on them and got where they needed to go, his ability to scramble, etc?? Worley looks like a tool out there. Like he's lost. The reason Dobbs or Ferguson haven't been in sooner is because for whatever reason he was wanting to redshirt them. It was CLEAR the talent difference in the two and moving forward there is no way Worley is the guy. Dobbs played extremely well in his first ever game. Worley is terrible and he has been there three years. Watch the game again if you need to.

I don't know if Dobbs will start or be the future of UT football, but I don't get this "came into a hostile environment vs the best def in the country" stuff. It was 35-0 when he came in, and if it hadn't been for what Saban whined about last week the stadium wouldn't have had a chunk of people in it.

Did he show some promise...yes. But to use this as part of a argument as why he's the answer isn't very good. I'm sure bama D wasn't to concerned their O couldn't have backed up any scoring on our end. Especially after CBJ goes out and pokes the bear like an idiot before the game.

You judge players on their body of work. Dobbs' first outing was solid. And yes, Alabama D was still playing hard.

No one knows this kids future, but he brought a spark that this offense has been lacking.

Why are so many people carrying water for Worley?

I just don't understand the rationality for the continual schilling for him.

I think the kid is great, love his heart. I don't think this team will win consistently with him under center though.

Why do we also have a percentage of our fan base who continues to defend a player/coach to the bitter end, even if they are doing a bad job? A lot of the Worley defenders remind me of Dooley supporters. Bottom line is, we need to play the ones who give us the best shot to win. Right now, that is Dobbs, especially for the future.

Because Worley starting over Dobbs benefits Fergy, and apparently there are a lot of upset Fergy fans right now because Dobbs got PT.
