March Madness is rt around the corner, so I thought it would be a good time to discuss Lunardi’s projection and matchups in the East. I for one do not want to face Duke in Greensboro.

I know this is a “what it” scenario but thought it would be fun to discuss.

Duke and UNC have always had the luxury playing in Greensboro over the years.

TV and the NCAA have to protect the ratings. I’d like to see those two programs have to travel to sites far from home like the unprotected programs have to. Even KY doesn’t get an equivalent benefit to those 2 media darlings enjoy.

Good point. Do you think TN will be sent to the East or South region?

I won’t mind if they end up in the Las Vegas regional. I have no idea where they’ll be assigned, but over seeding them and putting them with Duke is a distinct possibility. Duke’s path to a Final Four is an unwritten requirement of the selection committee. Even when they’re unranked they might get the home game advantage.

I planned on attending the first two rounds if TN plays close to Middle TN ( B-ham, Greensboro), but I refuse to watch us play Duke. I was a UNC fan in the 70’s and 80’s before I transferred to UT as a soph/jr in ‘92. I’ve seen so much home cooking for both of those teams, esp Duke. Plus, I truly think it’s a bad matchup for TN. My disdain for Duke in basketball is similar to FL in football.

I'd love to see us stay at the 3 line. Personally, I think we're headed to a 5 seed.

I highly doubt NCAA will do that to a higher seed basically having to play a road game. In fact I think there are rules that won't allow it. This is where Lunardi is wrong. Duke will end up a 5 seed in my opinion and it won't happen anyway.

Might be an unpopular opinion, but I am hoping Tennessee gets put in the West or Midwest. Tennessee fans travel just about as well as any non-blue blood program out there. I’d much prefer to be a 3/4 in the western part of the United States and avoid being put in an unfavorable matchup against regional darlings like Duke, UNC, etc.

Tennessee has not played in the West or Midwest Regions of the NCAA Tournament very often.

I prefer the 4th seed if it means we don’t play Duke. I don’t see TN going to a fifth unless we lose our first game in the SEC tourney.

Duke oddly enough would probably be a good matchup for us. They don't have smaller quicker guards and play a bigger lineup.

Their typical starters:
Filipowski - 7'0" vs Uros 7'0"
Mitchell - 6'8" vs JJJ 6'6" or Phillips 6'8"
Proctor - 6'5" vs Mashack 6'4"
Roach - 6'1" vs Santi 6'3"
Lively - 7'1" vs ON 6'8"

Now the question would be can Aidoo hold his own against either of their bigs or will they out muscle him? Uros I wouldn't be worried about as long as he doesn't get into foul trouble. ON/Awaka would be a bit undersized but Lively isn't much of a scoring threat for Duke typically.
