Insight from Cora Hall.

  • Sara Puckett looks like a new player. She was aggressive on defense, winning every full-court sprint and playing with another level of intensity.
  • Talaysia Cooper and Kaniya Boyd stood out as the best two-way guards on the court. Both were really strong in one-on-one drills up and down the court, staying in front of defenders and using their length to disrupt. Kim has mentioned a few times how her teams usually hate her at the beginning of the season and love her at the end. The pain of getting in top-top condition under a relentlessly demanding coach can definitely cause some players to question whether they even want to do it anymore. BUT, if they stick it out, get to postseason, then look around and realize they are capable of beating opponents by running them ragged while you still plenty of fuel in the tank? Well, that's really special. All that pain early on suddenly makes sense.

It's going to be a fun season. I can't help often thinking about the fact that last year's team came within a hair's width of beating the eventual national champion. Just think what this year's team might be able to do!
