There was a vast improvement in the "turnovers" by the LV....13 for the entire game; however, the 13 resulted in 17 points for LSU. The LV were horrible with free throws with only 59% and certainly not impressive with 3 point show resulting in a percentage in the 25% range.

Yes, they sure did. After a rocky start, there was much more tentative, careful play from a couple of folks, and it worked out for the best. I hesitate to get TOO happy about anyone becoming tentative, but dang... the turnovers have to be reduced. The reduction in TOs, in my opinion, was what allowed us to get this win. Well, that and RENNIA FREAKIN’ DAAAAAAVIIIIIIIISSSSS!

Nearly every miss was front of the rim.
That is either focus or exhaustion.
Or both

One game does not a season make, record wise nor statistics wise. I am happy the turnovers were reduced but that is tempered by the fact the defensive pressure the LVs faced against LSU was far less intense than what UConn displayed, particularly in the 2nd half. I'm hoping for a 3 or 4 games stretch where the ladies keep turnovers at an acceptable level. That will show real progress. And yes, Davis was superb. She carried the team today, smooth as silk and a pleasure to watch.

Bright spot, McCoy plays tough basketball. She certainly plays more physical than KK. In the last two games I think she has emerged as a good player off the bench. LSU played some very good defense which affected the Lady Vols three point shots. LSU is for real. They have beaten three ranked teams.

I still have a hard time figuring out why Renni and Harris get extended playing time. Harris does not seem very strong and seems to lack a killer instinct. Many time when she has the ball, she seems to be lost. Renni just does not have the speed to cover quick guards. Neither she or Harris, seem to be much help on offense. When KJH had two starters and three bench players on the floor, the defense played fairly good, however, the offense was very weak.

Overall, this is a work in progress so I expect some peaks and valleys. This year mirrors MoState from last year. In the beginning, they seem to be good, but not a team that had the ability to play well against D1 teams at the higher level, however, by the end they became a very good team. With that in mind, I say give KJH a chance.

I agree. I’m choosing to look at today as one small baby step toward the goal of getting turnovers down to a consistently low level. I honestly thought we’d have far more today with those small, quick guards Nikki has. Methinks there was some pretty stern discussion about the turnover sitch yesterday.

Teacherdean, while Kamera hasn’t given us much offense lately, I have been noticing that she’s pretty mobile and active on defense. She moves her feet better than some of our guards!

Rennie appears to have lost confidence, and it shows in her body language whenever she commits a foul. Her being at least a half-step behind the person she’s guarding has resulted in a lot of frustration reach-in fouls for her. She gets a look on her face that says, “I can’t catch a break!” every time she entersthe game and very soon after commits a foul. Hope she snaps out of that soon.

I have to defend Harris. She she moves well. And plays great defense on the big-forward sized-guards like #5 tonight. Since she is a big kid, yet graceful and athletic, she is like having a "big Meme" on defense

Harris moves effortlessly because she doesn't labor to run or move laterally. You can tell when she runs cross-courts. And in games on extended minutes she doesn't slow down.

When I watch the girls during warmups, I watch for specifics, as I am a mechanics coach.
for instance, ......When the girls are doing slide-steps with do their shoulders bounce? or do the shoulders stay on a conveyor like they should......when running cross-courts I watch their feet placement on stride; meaning do they run pigeon toed, duck-walk or pure pendulum in their strides...When doing stop-n-pops at the elbows, do they go straight up and down or do they land more then 1/4 a foot length forward?...

I don't just watch to see if the ball goes in, I watch to see why the ball didn't

Even when I am not working on my craft, I am working on my craft

However coach she seems lost at times and it also appears that she is not a very strong player when it comes to fighting for the ball. In addition, she offers very little offense. Against top D1 players she is at a disadvantage. That being said, I prefer her over KK because she puts in maximum effort.

13 is a welcome reduction in t.o.s. One player had 4 (three guesses), one had 2, everyone else just 1. No one went hog wild. So why did it seem so sloppy and choppy, especially the first half? We didn't shoot all that poorly, except free throws, so why didn't it feel better?. I thought a 13 turnover game would be alot prettier.

I agree the game seemed a bit choppy, not much flow except in spurts. Just my opinion, even though turnovers were reduced, passes were not particularly sharp nor crisp for the most part. Also, I think this team does too much dribbling. Are the pass and go or pick and roll part of this team's repertoire?

Yeah, I’ve noticed that Kam’s arms and hands need some extra strength training. Still, she doesn’t stand flat-footed, moves, and can be a far more disruptive defender than she gets credit for.

Agree with Creekdog that we still dribble too much. That comes from players not moving and cutting. We tend to dribble without purpose...and to waste our dribble and pick it up after a couple of steps (thus trapping ourselves). We still try to fire a bullet to a teammate four feet away, do the one-handed cross court pass, get lazy on in-bounds pass (both passer and receiver), and telegraph passes.

On the plus side, it seemed that we weren't seeing ghosts and passing to phantom teammates today even though LSU seemed to be invisible at times when standing right beside a receiver. Also on plus side, cut down on mental turnovers such as shot clock violations, three seconds, etc.

We were fortunate several times to be bailed out on what could have been turnovers...errant pass ending up going off LSU player, teammate tracking down off-target pass to save it, etc.

I would still count it as over 20 turnovers because 11 missed foul shots and 23 offensive rebounds by them definitely make up for at least 10 turnovers. I am glad we looked better on the floor against a quick team, but when you leave that many points at the line and allow them to get two and three shots at the basket on so many possessions still so much more mental toughness that we need to build.

They missed a lot of FTs in the first half which would have given a sense of separation (6 for 14 in 2nd quarter). That is a fair number of points to give away and the LVs could not cover Mitchell, particularly in the first quarter. I think most of her 24 came in the first half.

And LSU, to give them credit, are a quick athletic team that play hard on the defensive end.

Agreed. Of course, the #3 team in the country is going to be a more formidable defensive opponent than unranked LSU but LSU has exactly the kind of guards who have just recently created all kinds of turnover problems.

So, yes indeed, we can see that Kellie and staff have taken steps to correct the problem. Of course, naysayers will say well, "just one game" as though it means nothing but, had the LVs lost I am sure we would have seen the negavols all over this board with their predictable diatribes.

very physical game...thought maybe Lou and Jaiden should file for hazard pay...runs and comebacks from both teams as they battled it out, and we did get the win, so, that's cool...:D

Dang tough standard. Measured this way we made about 50 t.o.s at UConn.
All I will say is thank you Rennia Davis if she shoots free throws like the rest of the team we lose today. She made 10 of 10 and the rest of the team made 6 of 17 35 percent. Were gonna lose a game or more shooting the free ones like that and the difference between this and UConn is that we only got 7 free throws there and the offensive rebound deficit was not 12 like against LSU. Overall we certainly played a lot better against LSU the shot deficit there was 17 LSU only 8 and the free throws were supposed to equal that out if we had made a few more.

Definitely points left on the table are a very big deal, no matter how they occur. I'm sure every single one is noted and addressed by the coaches. Fixing them is a harder problem.
