Who has updated? What do youthink so far?

I did the public beta on my iMac and I liked the visual overhaul. I love the new design to Safari's tab view and the built in RSS reader is a nice addition. The beta seemed to really slow down some processes though. Particularly Safari. Full version seems to to have fixed that although I haven't spent enough time playing on that machine.

Unfortunately my iMac fell just under the model year (late 2011) for the ability to do the Handoff feature. I guess being able to Airdrop between phone and computer falls under this too. That makes it all the more tempting to upgrade to the new 5K Retina iMac LOL (My wife would kill me).

My MBA on the other hand, is doing it all perfectly. Airdrop works great from the phone. I've made a couple of phone calls from it. That will come in handy on occasion. I can't wait iOS 8.1 on Monday so it will push SMS texting from phone to messaging app on Mac.

Some features I haven't played with yet such as mark-up in email. I still like Skitch because it saves your docs to your Evernote account. I could still see using it on occasion though.

Having widgets in the notification center is nice, particularly the calculator. Makes going over finances so much easier when I look at the banking online and swipe in the calculator on top.

Just did the iOS 8.1 update. SMS messaging from computer is working great. Its like I don't have to pick up my phone for anything now.

I'm just glad they finally got guided access fixed on 8.1.

Just downloaded it. I do not care for the colors and the new graphics, but I'll get used to it.

I actually welcome a new look. Although, I'm not in love with the new fonts.

Thats what I mean. I hate the new fonts and I hate the drop down menu. I love the old bookmark bar.

I do miss the favicons. Made it easy to find the bookmark I wanted to go to. Mayne there is a way to bring it back*I haven't looked into it.

I do like the "Shared links" tab and the infinite scroll that goes with it. Pretty sharp.

Noticed something interesting today. Might not be a new feature but it was a first for me.

My biz partner and I were driving to a meeting and I needed to pull something up on my MBA so it would be ready to show the client. Partner has Hot Spot on his phone so I connected to it while driving. When we arrived at our destination I looked at my phone and noticed it was connected to his hotspot too.

Then when we went inside I connected to the clients Wi-Fi from my MBA. A few minutes later I notice my phone is connected to the same network. I had never connected to their neteork before.

I know that the devices have shared networks that the other has connected to before because I've seen some networks on my iMac I know good and well it hasu never connected to before. What I didn't know is that the devices try to sync up and connect to the same network when they are both able to.

Have to admit it was pretty sick.

I thought you were going to be able to send a text to a number that doesn't have imessage. Is that not correct?

Ok, so if I don't have an iphone, i just changed to a Galaxy 5s because of my work. So I don't have the option now?

Correct. Only works with iOS.

Also your Mac needs to be 2012 model or newer. I've got a late 2011 iMac and it doesn't work with that machine but it works great with my Macbook Air I bought this summer.

Hangouts (Google) should let you SMS from your PC/Mac if you enable SMS on your phone inside Hangouts.

Or, install AirDroid on your phone and you can text from your PC/Mac.

Speaking of the air, is there an adapter you can buy that allows you to plug an ethernet cord into it for internet, or is wireless the only option?

There is. It's a thunderbolt to ethernet adaptor. I think the Apple branded ones are around $30.

I was never a big Spotlight search user but I've been trying to get used to it with the expanded functionality in Yosemite. Found a cool app that extends it even further called Flashlight. You add plugging that will search a variety of different things like google images, amazon, netflix, spotify, torrents, etc. Pretty nifty.

get it here => https://github.com/nate-parrott/Flashlight/releases

A buddy also tipped me off to Boom. Its an audio equalizer that calibrates your specific machine. I did the free trial and ran the calibration while listening to music. Made a world of difference. I'll probably go ahead and purchase the full version. If you listen to music from your Mac with any regularity its worth giving a look.

Boom 2 - Mac volume booster, advanced equalizers & audio effects
