Every once in a while you come upon a particular news item where you can almost visualize the brain cells dying in some Hollywood executive think-tank thousands of miles away. While last weekend's announcement of a View-Master movie, based on the Fisher-Price toy, was a prime example of this modern day creative crisis we now have another to pass along to you patient readers.

Variety is reporting that SNL producers and Relativity Media believe the time is ripe for a MacGruber feature film, based on the Will Forte spy character skit that spoofs the popular 80's character MacGyver. Forte, who's returning to SNL this fall, will play the lead character while comedian Kristen Wiig will reprise her Vicki character for the full-length film. The trade also reports that Val Kilmer and Ryan Phillippe are in negotiations to jump on board.

Hoping to join such timeless classics as The Ladies Man, Coneheads, It's Pat, Stuart Saves His Family and A Night at the Roxbury, SNL head honcho Lorne Michaels will produce the adaptation alongside Relativity's Ryan Kavanaugh while Tucker Tooley will exec produce along with Erin David and the show's head writer Seth Meyers.
