Bonney told KTRK in Houston that Brown, who was presumably looking out for the best interests of the recruits he had built relationships with, told recruits that they should “look around” before deciding if they wanted to stick with the Longhorns.

I am not saying he what he did was the worse thing but it does seem kind of vindictive.

LSU may actually benefit and is looking to flip quite a few this year and next, should know by Wednesday.

Pretty vindictive when you're still going to be employed by the school and when you say in your press conference you're stepping down for the benefit of the program you love so much.

I can see being honest and telling the kids to make the best decision for themselves but also subtly hinting that TX is a great place and they can still be successful by coming there. This puts him and CCS in an odd predicament since they'll be working together.

I bet shaggybevo is in a complete meltdown

I would imagine, if what I am hearing comes true... Texas fans are not going to be happy on Wednesday, we'll see.

LSU seems to feel their in good shape for:
- DE Sione Teuhema 2014 (TX Commit)
- DT Trey Lealaimatafao 2014 (former TX commit)
- OT Maea Teuhema 2015 (Sione's lil brother TX Commit)
- OG Patrick Vahe 2015 (Sione and Maea's cousin TX Commit)

LSU is also in the mix for WR Emanuel Porter 2014 former TX Commit currently commited TCU but he still has Texas in the mix as well.

bowlinggreenvol, I kind of agree, he screwed Texas.

Maybe, but with a changing of the guard its fair to presume that not all recruits would still be all-in.

Player has to look out for the player at the end of the day.

Agreed, but not really Mack's place to tell them that. We got mad at Kiffin and Coach O for trying to steer commits/recruits to their new school (what they're paid to do) and here Mack's doing it while still on the Texas payroll.

Could be worse, he didn't pull a Kiffin or a Franklin. No, he wasn't going to another school, but he still could've done far worse damage to the kids and recruiting if he really wanted to.

Lots of Houston kids are Katrina people who may feel more connected to La than Tx.

I don't think any of the Texas kids LSU feels like they have an inside track on were Katrina kids, as far as I am aware.

Now Texas did lose DT Courtney Garnett who is from NO and is teammates of Leonard Fournette, I believe Garnett committed to OU.

Brothers have de-committed, no word on the cousin yet.

Thank you Mack Brown. :)

From what I remember there was a little bit more to that story.

The hits just keep coming. The cousin is likely to de-commit as well, just like I was told. There might be one more in the mix as well but I don't have confirmation and it's vague.

Yes there was, they informed kids not to enroll in school. Still, they were being paid by another institution to do this. It's not the actions of the moral of moral but I have little problem with it when you have a relationship with kids and your new employer is expecting you to get the best.

If you're a sales rep and you've spent years accumulating accounts and forging relationships and you take another job, do you not try to hold your clients and switch them over? Now say you've moved into a different position at your same corp and you actively steer old/potential clients away because you've been reassigned. Which is worse?

Baylor coaches working hard to flip 4* DB John Bonney.

John Bonney

In other news, TCU has flipped A&M's 4* RB Varshaun Nixon from Lake Travis.

Recruit's father backs former Texas coach Mack Brown on 'look around' comments - ESPN

Does not seem vindictive based on quotes according to Bonney's dad...maybe ill-advised, but not vindictive

"I was standing right there when he made the statement," Jerry Bonney said. "His first general statement to the kids and all of us [family members] was 'I'm not telling you not to come to Texas. I think this is a fine place and you should stay [if you're committed to Texas]. However, if you are coming here for me to coach you and that was the main reason you were coming, those of you in that category, I certainly encourage you to look elsewhere because I won't be your coach. I'm stepping down immediately after the Oregon game.' "

He may have had good intentions towards the players but imho it's vindictive towards the school, or at least if that was my school that is how I would regard it.

LSU pulled 3 of the 4 Texas kids with the cousin coming for a visit and offer down the road.

Yelp, Bonney didn't flip but it took an act of God for them to keep him.
