Mahelona head-butts UT helmet

My feelings about Mahelona are well documented in this forum. This story just reinforces my opinion.

If Mahelona is SO intense that he can't take the time to make sure that his helmet's chin strap is properly snapped, then I highly suggest that he just play without a helmet. It appears that he's stupid enough already that playing without a helmet can't cause any significant damage.

I started a thread last year about helmets flying everywhere.

Hasn't anyone noticed this?

10 years ago, a helmet flying off meant that a serious "lick" was dealt.

Now, we see it atleast 5 to 10 times a game. Maybe more.

I guess it's the cool thing to do.

i remember making the same comments last year to a buddie of mine .

helmets are flying off all the time it seems like

I can guarantee that Jesse Mahelona is more intelligent than 80% of our football players.

1) Because he didn't.
2) He and I both frequent a restaurant/lounge in Knoxville. I've never met a more self absorbed jerk at UT. Unquestionably the worst representative of the University I've ever been around.

OK, but why??

I dont mingle with the players like you, but from what i saw he gave 100% every play.

If he was giving 100%, then he was wildly overrated. He was totally unproductive last year. Did he receive some extra attention from the opposing blockers? Yes, but a really good player beats double teams and makes plays.

Yeah, especially with the help he had. But he was a beast in '04. That wasnt i mirage.

Even more reason to rip him. The majority of this board have taken their shots at Jamal Lewis and Kelly Washington for being concerned about the NFL, but nobody calls out Mahelona. Jam and Kelly both had major injuries to deal with. What was 55's excuse?

After Mahelona's JR season, he was one of my favorite Vols, but then his SR season seriously disappointed me.

He obviously opened it up for other guys.


Parys Haralson had 16.5 Tfl and 8.5 sacks

Justin Harrell had 7.5 and 2.5

And Jason Hall had 13 and 7.

they all had huge years at Mahelona's expense it looks like to me.


Off subject here. How in the hell does Parys Harralson not get an AA honor with that monser season? Pretty much the same season Mahelona had in 04.

Not sure if he is mixing up Toeaina and Mahelona, but what he said in refference to Mahelona could NOT be FARTHER from the truth.

Ok....As much as I love the vols. there is a damn good chance that an NFL equipment manager may be a better helmet guy than the one we have. Our helmets do fly off way too often, by the way.

There's also a damn good chance that they're equally good at their job, and Mahelona just kept forgetting to buckle his strap like he admitted to. :crazy:
