Maine Votes No To Gay Marriage

All I care about is that these decisions are in the hands of the voters; not judges.

It won't be long before states vote to endorse gay marriage.

What a concept, allowing the states to decide instead of some liberal judge who agrees with our latest supreme court appointee that says courts are the place to make policy. This shows that the people are more conservative than the media wants you to believe.

no you're allowing the few that give a damn the ability to make laws. I would be against a marriage ban but there's no way I would show up just to vote on it with not much else going on. Granny and her sunday school class have plenty of free time though

Everyone in these states have the right to go vote on this issue. If someone does not feel the need to go vote that is their own fault. If you choose not to show up to vote that is your problem, you would have had the opportunity to cast your vote. I would rather the people vote on this than some judge with a lifetime appointment.

I could care less what the outcome is as long as the states decide for themselves. I'm a big fan of the 10th Amendment.

and I'm a big fan of taking the choice out of the hands of stupid citizens. There are plenty of things that would have had a hard time passing if it was left up to the will of the people

I think I'll consider moving to Maine. If the most important social debate going on there is this trifling stupidity, real issues like crime, education, and economic growth must already have been resolved.

they probably didn't vote because it doesn't matter to them and has zero impact on their lives. For some reason the bible bangers seem to think if gays marry it will instantly cause riots in the streets and 12yo girls marrying goats.

If that was always the case, many states in the south would probably still be supporting segregation.

And I am in no way trying to promote gay marriage with that post. I was just trying to make a point.

What are you talking about? Haven't you read about the referendums that ended slavery and gave women the right to vote?

I don't mind that they want their rights, I just hate when their struggle for those rights is compared to the struggle of African Americans. It's just not the same thing and the comparison has always irritated me.

If they don't care that is fine, but they could have cast a vote if it mattered. I am against gay marriage, but if a state wants to have it then fine. Every state that has put this issue on the ballot has rejected it. Who do you want making this decision?

No state would support segregation. I always support states making decisions.

What happened to a government for the people by the people? It should never be easy for a government to impose its will upon its citizens.

In what year would Alabama have decided to do away with it? When did the switch go off in the heads of the people?

You have got to be kidding, well I now know you don't have a legitimate arguement because its time to pull the race card.

I never said I support gay marriage. I'm against it actually. I'm just not going to pretend that a state as backwards as some were in the 1960's would have come around if they weren't basically ordered to do so. Look at the response to the little rock 9? When were the racist trash denying blacks entrance to the school going to decide segregation was a bad thing? Should the government have just waited for them to die out?

I am just for states rights, I have more faith in the american people than I do a lawyer, judge or any person in the govt. If you disagree with a decision made in a state you can leave that state. So lets say that a state votes on segregation and votes to keep it, then one could move to a state that has voted it down. And again I don't think any state would vote for segregation.

So we should have just let states like Alabama and Arkansas just keep going with segregation until they decided to come around?

For one you don't have any evidence to support your theory that they would still want it.
Think of it this way, would you rather a state put a law into place that you are completely against or the country as a whole be forced to take a law that you are completely against?
