Dumb. Just go ahead and let everyone in the Chase. The winner already received more points for winning last I checked.

agree with the first part. 10 is enough.

as for the seond part, racing is about winning. those who win should be substantialy rewarded for it.

Should they use the Ricky Bobby method of "If you ain't first, you're last!" and only reward points to the winner of the race?

NASCAR is like playing cards with my 4 year old. They make rules on the fly and change things around whever they feel like it whether it makes sense or not.

The sad thing about that is that it really wouldn't have surprised anyone if they made this change in the middle of the season. They jack with the rules on the cars all the time during the season, why not the points? Make it kind of like Russian Roulette (sp?) Just when you think you're safe in Chase with that 12th place standing, BAM, they reduce to it 11.

I agree with awarding more points for winning, but adding more drivers to the chase is just plain idioic. The first 26 races are going to mean nothing now, as if they mean anything anyway. In a year or two, the chase will be just like the provisionals, everybody gets in.

i would just as soon NASCAR go back to the old way, consistency wins the championship, no ten race "playoff" that puts 30 cars on the track with nothing to gain season wise.

Nobody is saying that. The drivers in the last few years have figured out how to play the system, and now they are riding around trying to points race, instead of going all out for the win.

Agree completely... I see no reason how you can justify giving the championship to someone who won a few more races, yet wrecked/blew up/DNF in a bunch of races as well. People will gripe about guys not trying to win, when they win multiple races during the year... it doesn't make sense.

no we gripe about guys who ride around, and when Chase time comes, find themselves in it.

While I do agree with giving more points for winning the race, I don't agree with having more than 10 drivers in THE CHASE. Maybe they should award 10 points for winning the pole. It will be interesting to see what comes out of the meeting.

agree as well, the chase adds a little something to the end of the year excitement wise, but i'm all for returning to the old way. If you can run top 10 consistantly week in and week out, then you deserve the cup, no doubt. I wish someone would rip of 15 wins in the regular season and blow it in the chase, just to show how assinine the concept is.

As for adding drivers to the chase, that is simply because a marquee driver has failed to make it each season, and they need to sell hats and bumper stickers at outrageous prices, so need to keep the fanbase interested.

That is just the beginning of my every growing disallusionment with NASCAR, don't get me going on the car of tomorrrow.

racing not to win is an assine concept.

i'm not saying the winner of race should get a 100 point bonus or anything ridiculous like that. but the margin of points between 1st and 2nd is ridiculous.

racing is about winning. not about running around in the top 10 week after week.

What would you make the difference between first and second?

I just can't justify having a guy win the championship that won 8 races and had a substantial number of DNFs over a guy that won 3 or 4 races who was also in contention in a larger majority of the races.

currently:

FinishPoints
1st180
2nd170
3rd165
4th160
5th155
6th150
7th146
8th142
9th138
10th134

i'm fine with 2nd-10th and on down, but you only get 10 more points than second for winning the race? 10 points? come on. first should get 195 for the win. i think 25 points for winning is fair.

i'm not fine with a guy winning no races making it to the Chase when there's guys on the outside looking in that have won them.

see, i think 30 is to many.

what they really need to do is get rid of the rule of 5 bonus for leading a lap. that's stupid. especially when you have guys staying out under caution just to lead the lap. or guys who make deals with their teamates to cross the stripe and get credit for leading, only to fall back into second after.

Dont know if anyone has mentioned this, but the top 35 being guaranteed a spot is dumb. I mean go back to racing in and if not making it, using provisionals. I hate that.

agreed with that as well.

i think provisionals are stupid as well. if you're not fast enough to qualify, you go home. it should be the fastest 43 drivers. period.

while i'm on the subject, does anybody know why it's 43 and not 42 or 44?

Now I totally agree with that!:salute:
