im not expecting more. u are the one expecting more. this is an awesome year and i dont think we could do a whole lot better next year. i never said that wed need them in critical situations. id rather not have them in, though howell did do good in watsons absence during the uf game at home. give him 2 years and we will be a powerhouse. this year is almost up. wait till after next season, just wait.
I agree. However, a good portion of the fan base thinks that it will be straight up the national ladder from here. I'm simply pointing out that this is still a roster with a lot of imperfections.

ummm, mattvols, where have u been for the last 4 months? we got wayne chism. hes our center for, hopefully, the next 4 years. hes not 7 foot tall, but pearl loves him. he thinks he is the 2nd best center in the nation only to greg oden(#1 player in nation, lottery pick next year). he held oden to 13 points during the summer. he matched brandan wright. he owned jason bennett and owned thad young for a half before he left with an ankle injury. major isnt a complete lost cause. he will get in the gym and get stronger and hopefully more aggressive. childress is coming more out of his shell each game that passes. harris is good, but was overweight. some experts think he will be a contributor next year.
Chism is too small to play center hes a natural powerforward, hes only 6'8'' thats way too short for playing center and only 230, way too small

of course it is. im just happy we are winning. only one team wins the national title a year and its asking a little too much to win it once every 3-5 years. i think if we can keep doing like we are doing this year, with peaks and troughs obviously, we will win our share of sec and maybe ncaa titles. our talent level will rise with winning, but it wont just appear all at once.

well, thats a good thing u arent the coach mattvols. u obviously have never seen him play. what about glen davis there genius? hes only 6-9. chism is actually around 6-9 and 240 and its muscle. he is cut. pearl recruited him specifically for center.

In Matt's defense there are a lot of relly good D-1 coaches who don't think he's a center. It's the same debate you and I had about whether or not Johnson is a point guard. I know for an indisputable fact that Calipari and Tim Floyd don't see Chism as a true center.

thats true, but thats not our coaches or team. pearl recruits them for those positions because he feels thats best for our style.

I agree. Tim Floyd made the point that what he looks for in a center is different than what fits Pearl's style.

yeah. if we had dukes style, wed want a taller, bigger center. they run a slower paced game thats based around execution. we run a faster, more frantic pace so we need athletic centers and those are usually not as tall.

I think Hatvol is trying to keep everyone in the Nation from sticking their heads in the clouds. This season has been successful, period. If we do similar things for the next 3 years or so, those will be successful... the expectations have gone from none to everything pretty darn quick.

I'm glad someone recognizes what I'm trying to do. This season has been an unqualified success. However, when I see people talking about the Elite Eight, I get a little frustrated. This team has exceeded all reasonable expectations. They shouldn't be burdened with any unreasonable ones.

I agree 100%. Why do people feel the need to assign expectations and then revise them as the season goes along? It's one thing to make small talk about what you think might happen, but I think the run we've had the last couple of months has really made some people lose their minds a little bit.

Just sit back and enjoy the ride. :twocents:

Ooooooooh, that was the point. :D We are UT fans though so if you give us one win we expect 3. I think these kids think the same way we do though or they wouldn't be doing what they are. They are above and beyond everything we could have hoped for this year. I'm not being greedy when I say I want UT to do well in the tourney, I want to see these guys rewarded for the heart they have put out this season. I believe some of them will be spoken of in the same way we talk of Ernie & Bernie. Not talent wise but what they did for the program.

1 rebound = no heart

Considering how Coach P has built this team around giving it your all it makes me think Major will have to work on his mental approach more than the physical.

Make that 1 rebound in the last 2 games and tell me what you think.

yeah i know.

cj and lofton have been outrebounding him. he's about 10 ft closer to the basket when the ball goes up then they are.

another bad stat to look at, is the number of rebounds the opposing team's center has gotten vs. Major. They are all in double digits.

I don't think you can have it both ways on the count of having team victories, but then having only one player be responsible for the losses. Major's play has been consistent thoughout the season (mediocre at best), and we've won plenty with him.

When I watch the games I see him hustling up and down the court, putting pressure on the ball out of bounds, and generally doing his best. Unfortunately, he's too slight to dominate on D and lacks the athleticism to dominate on O.

Meanwhile, till recruiting catches up, SEND MAJOR TO THE BIG MEN'S CAMP this summer. That will help him and us for next season. The camp will only help him.

4 fouls, 3 points, 1 rebound

For a guy as big as he is, you would think he could help us out just a little bit. I'm not the kinda guy to find excuses for losses, but if there was a reason we lost this game, it was because of Wingate. He is absolutely terrible!

Shows how little you know about the game and yesterday's game in particular. When Wingate left the game with 4 fouls, Arky soon took the lead. When Wingate sat on the bench, it allowed Arky to pound the ball inside and eventually pick up the win. So your emotional rant is without substance.
