Man sentenced after granddaughter's fatal fall from cruise ship
He got off easy. Video I saw shows him looking out of the window before he stupidly put the child up there.

Wiegand's family has sued Royal Caribbean, alleging the company failed to "provide reasonably safe children entertainment areas, including reasonably safe windows." An attorney for the family previously told CBS News that the ship did not meet safety regulations and should have been equipped with fall prevention window guards, screens and a device that would have kept the window from opening more than four inches. The company denies the allegations.

I hope that Royal Caribbean does not cave in to the parents greed.

There is no chance that the suit will be successful. I am guessing it will be dismissed. I don't think the grandfather needed to be imprisoned. He'll be tortured in his own mind for what happened. My biggest fear as I grow older is that I'll do something stupid in my driving and cause a fatal accident. I am hoping that driverless cars will be common in 10 years. I'll use them.

If it’s true that he’d held her up to the glass and knocked on the window “many times before” this is a freak accident and the grandfather needs to be released. So sad.

I think he lied.

I'm sure it was an accident, but I think he came up with the "I thought there was a window" story to make it sound more like a less-stupid accident.
