He would claim he offset it all with carbon credits...

Carbon credits along with caps will really stratify society economically. It's not a good idea.

a better questoin is how the hell has he made all this money

I know he's on a few corporations' boards, but you would be floored to hear how much he makes off his speaking engagements. Deep into the six figures area sometimes.

how many trees do you have to plant in Romania to earn the carbon credits to heat the swimming pool?

i suppose the whole GW stuff would get you good speaking money. hard to get rich by being on a corporations board, unless it turns into microsoft or google or something.

Seriously though - his message is about using less energy and conservation. He now has 2 large homes and that ridiculous boat. Clearly he will need to travel between homes.

I don't care how many carbon credits he buys, he is displaying excess and that is counter to his message.

When you invent the internet, you make bank.

You know, I thought and still think that was a ridiculous statement, but at a conference a couple of years back I attended there was a person there talking about information technology and the like and during the break I was talking to him. The topic of the Gore/internet came up and he said that Gore actually does deserve a lot of the credit about the internet in the US. Apparently when he was a senator/VP he was one of the leading officials in DC trumping and securing funding for the internet in America. The guy even went to say that without Gore the internet would be nowhere near what it is today.

Just an FYI.....

That said, I still can't stand him.

I think that the guy may be trumping Gore's role a bit more than necessary, but it is my understanding that he played an important role in Congress in pushing Darpanet forward into the internet.

My issue with that whole thing is that Gore didn't even say that he invented the internet, he said he "took the initiative in creating the internet." While there may be a subtle difference, the latter is obviously more in-line with his role on the Hill.

Gore has said plenty of stupid and wrong things, I'm sure, so I encourage people to pick those out rather than make this one up.
