I voted decriminalization. It needlessly crowds up jail cells and uses public money for something that is far more often than not a minor offense.

HOW DANGEROUS IS MARIJUANA
COMPARED WITH OTHER SUBSTANCES?

Number of American deaths per year that result directly or primarily from the following selected causes nationwide, according to World Almanacs, Life Insurance Actuarial (death) Rates, and the last 20 years of U.S. Surgeon Generals' reports.

TOBACCO-340,000 to 450,000

ALCOHOL (Not including 50% of all highway deaths and 65% of all murders) 150,000+

ASPIRIN (Including deliberate overdose) 180 to 1,000+

CAFFEINE (From stress, ulcers, and triggering irregular heartbeats, etc.) 1,000 to 10,000

"LEGAL" DRUG OVERDOSE (Deliberate or accidental) from legal, prescribed or patent medicines and/or mixing with alcohol - e.g. Valium/alcohol 14,000 to 27,000

ILLICIT DRUG OVERDOSE (Deliberate or accidental) from all illegal drugs. 3,800 to 5,200

MARIJUANA 0
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Marijuana users also have the same or lower incidence of murders and highway deaths and accidents than the general non-marijuana using population as a whole. Crancer Study, UCLA; U.S. Funded ($6 million), First & Second Jamaican Studies, 1968 to 1974; Costa Rican Studies, 1980 to 1982; et al. LOWEST TOXICITY 100% of the studies done at dozens of American universities and research facilities show pot toxicity does not exist. Medical history does not record anyone dying from an overdose of marijuana (UCLA, Harvard, Temple, etc.).

I voted decriminalization, more specifically to the hemp plant. I would like to see the hemp used industrially in manufacturing and textiles. I think it could help our farmers that are already facing cuts in funding from the government and low prices on the open market due to overproduction. , The anti-tobacco nazis have made tobacco unprofitable, forcing many families to sell their farms. Growing hemp could eliminate that while jump starting our textile industries.

The best casual clothes I have are made from hemp.

Personally I agree that decriminalization is the best option. But if its made legal it would have to be highly legislated similar to alcohol. Age restrictions, while driving, and other mandates on its use. I do not want to see people showing up to construction sites all glassy eyed and high. Similar to the rule you can't show up to work drunk off your ass. But if you have a 4 day week and and wanna cause your dick to stop working and develop cancer go right ahead. I go light up a Marlboro which does the same thing.

Smoke Up.. Chicks dig men with real jobs anyway... More for me!!!

It is a drug, there is no place to legalize, this sounds like a VERY Democratic wish. Is this post from Teddy Kennedy, John Kerry, Bill Clinton, Hillary Rodham or that Churchill creep from Colorado? :bad:

So nicotine and alcohol aren't drugs? Those two have killed a lot of people. You don't have to assume that everyone on this board is a Republican either. ;)

I'm not a Republican (not a Democrat, either). I don't think that marijuana is a good thing, but at the same time, it's no worse than cigarettes or alcohol. So, you can legalize marijuana or ban alcohol and tobacco.

The only reason that they don't legalize it is because it's not a big market here in the country. There are far more dangerous drugs being made by our pharmaceutical companies!

When is the last time you saw a marijuana user beat his wife and kids, or spend his entire paycheck on weed?

When is the last time you saw someone high on weed cross over the center line on a rural road and kill and family of four?

Show me that alcohol has any medical use.

You are in denial. You cannot say with a clear conscious that marijuana is worse than alcohol or hard drugs. Alcohol is one of the biggest problems in our society today, yet (considering your friendship with johnny majors)I doubt you have any problem with it.

BTW, I am no democrat, just someone with reason and common sense. and if you would notice the majority votes legalization or decriminalization.

Excessive use of any of these substances is bad for you and society in general. I know you are just making a point, but don't gloss over marijuana as if nobody has ever been high as a kite and done anything bad. It's a bad idea to use any of it.

Like I said before. When you overdo anything, it's bad. Let's face it, some people can't handle a morning without coffee.

I think most of the drinking talk on here is a bunch of BS though. Who gets drunk and then gets on the internet?

... and as for Don - don't worry about him. He's a good guy, he just has strong view on, well . . . everything.

Does the same apply to those that get stoned and then get on the internet?

Pot and booze are the same when you're driving. Both leave you impaired, and it is illegal and incredibly stupid to drive impaired.

That is the true problem with any drug. As long as there are drugs of any kind, there will be certain people who abuse it and do some pretty stupid and dangerous things.

I am a recovering alcoholic, so I have a great perspective on what addiction can do to you and how it can ruin your life. Luckily, my addiction didn't ruin my life by any means, but if I kept it up, it most certainly would have. However, as we all know, these things mentioned have ruined a lot of peoples lives and ended some. If pot were legalized, I am afraid that it would just add to the total of lives ruined.
