Not in the new Big Ten or whatever they are. If the new teams weren’t coming on, then he’d do fine, probably. He’s do about what he did at UK, beat inferior teams and lose to teams they should lose to, and maybe some they shouldn’t. Not Michigan caliber results.Would be a solid hire for them. Stoops would do good there.
It's still not as tough as a SEC schedule. Not gonna happen anyway. Not in the new Big Ten or whatever they are. If the new teams weren’t coming on, then he’d do fine, probably. I’d be surprised as y’all If Stoops went anywhere near Michigan but I’ve been wrong before. Seems they are promoting their OC Moore. While I’m certain he’s a great coach I must admit I’m a little surprised a college of Michigan’s pedigree wouldn’t go after a well proven, high level head coach that’s CEOed a program before. Certainly not against hiring a quality coordinator…but like the Vols when we hired CJH…WE DESPERATELY NEEDED A PROVEN CEO…and we got one! JMO
Yeah we'll disagree...and that's ok. Actually...running an SEC program (especially the size of Tennessee) takes huge CEO qualities. Most CEO's I know never even approach the level of organizational and leadership skills it would take to CEO a major college football program. CJH is exactly a "hands on guy" much like Saban was at Bama (not comparing CJH success with NS just extrapolating a little here). And yeah there certainly was a little teeth gnashing going on wasn't there? BUT....most of the people I know in and around the program understood the importance of head coaching experience and we probably were never hiring an assistant at that point because of the mess we were in. I do agree as he evolves (and gets older) he will probably matriculate toward the classic CEO style more.I would disagree with that last part. Heupel had 3 years of HC experience when he was hired here. He was and is far from the CEO type at this point. He is very hands on. If he continues to enjoy success here for decades, then yeah he will probably evolve into more of a CEO type coach.
Lest we forget, there was much moaning and teeth gnashing when the hire was made. I didn't like it at the time either honestly. Sometimes what we don't really want is exactly what we need though.
