I was reading Titus's mailbag on Grantland and this little gem came up in reference to Tom Crean not getting coach of the year, and in his two paragraph response he said this.

If you want to get angry about a coach getting snubbed, grab your torch and pitchfork and go after whoever decided the Big Ten and SEC postseason awards. I mean, Tom Izzo being named Big Ten coach of the year over John Beilein and John Calipari being named SEC coach of the year over Cuonzo Martin are bigger mysteries than Stonehenge and Ryan Seacrest's sexual orientation. When you compare Michigan's roster to the rosters of Michigan State and Ohio State, and then consider that the Wolverines won a share of the Big Ten championship, it's a wonder how Beilein isn't a shoo-in for national coach of the year, let alone conference coach of the year. And I seem to be the only person outside of Knoxville who noticed that after the Bruce Pearl mess, Tennessee was picked to finish 11th in the SEC this year but Martin somehow led them to a second-place finish. I don't care how bad the SEC is — even Anne Sullivan thinks Martin was a miracle worker this year

He makes some good points on Beilein, especially since they tied for 1st in the B10. Martin won't be overlooked any longer, and he was a miracle worker for us this year...can't wait for the game tomorrow night - GBO!

I'm a Michigan homer.

But Izzo deserves B10 COY. Beilein did what everyone expected. A top four Big Ten team hovering around the top 20. He's done a fine job this year, but Izzo had a team that was not even ranked and supposed to be nowhere near a top five caliber team preseason, and has them positioned for a possible #1 seed.

Michigan didn't do anything above what everyone thought they would do. Struggle on the road and stay ranked between 12-20. Nothing special about their season.

As for the SEC, if Cal had gone 14-2 in the SEC, Martin wins COY, or at least shares it with Cal.

I can't complain about Cal winning SEC COY.

I have no idea why we was so adamant about Beilein over Izzo. Izzo did one of his more impressive jobs.

Yeah, I like Izzo's job this year much better. Crean had the award gift wrapped and handed to him if they didn't struggle so bad on the road this year. Not that mind, because I hate IU. OSU underachieved, and Wisconsin was average.

Even then, if you told me Indiana was going to be an NCAA tourney team, I would have no problem because I figured this was their year to make a move.

I follow college basketball and Big Ten basketball. I could name three players on Michigan State before the year began. That's how impressive Izzo has been.

Yeah, I watched the Carrier Classic when UNC drubbed them pretty good and remember thinking "Izzo has his work cut out for him." But as usual, he finds a way. He is the epitome of what a Big Ten coach should be, in terms of style and discipline.
