Citing the need for a real life, he announced he will not run for President in '08.....

Wonder what skeletons are in his closet? Calling all pages, interns, or dirty items planted by Hillary....

Does it really count when you decide not to run for an office, but nobody really cares?

Well any southern Democrat still left would care since he was their best chance to ride the middle.

Are there still people who admit to being conservative southern Democrats? I thought Zell Miller had eaten them all.

Most in office have already switched over....and clearly brought their views with them. Seeing the shape of the GOP now, that's an indication that these switchers only changed the letter behind their name and brought their politics with them.

So the land of cotton is GOP in name only?

For a good portion, yes. Many in office are Dems who switched letters. Take away the switchers in GA and the Dems still hold the Legislature and the Governor's office.

Warner probably has no desire to be scrutinized by the Hillary Clinton campaign machine or even John Kerry's or Al Gore's.

Then again, maybe DailyKos told him not to run.

Usually, when a politician bows out for "family reasons" there's a lot more left unsaid.
