I just remembered an internet friend I used to chat with years ago. She lived in Marrero, LA. I wonder if her town was affected. Anybody know?

From what I've seen, all of southeast Louisiana is a wasteland.

Has anyone ever told you that you aren't the worlds best at breaking bad news?? :p

Sorry . . . That was a bit harsh, but I don't think there's any way to sugarcoat it.

I will say though that I have friends who live in Covington which is across the lake from New Orleans and while they haven't been allowed back in, they got a text message today from someone in the area telling them that amazingly their house is still standing and they only suffered some roof damage.

I was just messing with you...it is what it is.

Sounds like your friends were very lucky. I'm glad to hear that somebody got some good news in this tragedy.

Marrero is on the WEST BANK of the Mississippi river. So if you were in the French Quarter and you looked up and saw the big bridge across the river, that is how you get to Marrero. It is mostly un affected compared to the rest.

As for Covington and Mandeville, etc. They are NEAR sSLidell, but not exactly in the path of the storm surge. Their big problem is wind damage, downed trees, no electricity to turn on the gas stations, lack of fuel, food, fones, etc. Those areas faired better because they didn't have the flooding.
