ABC Officially Picks Up Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Rumors began to circulate last night that ABC would be officially ordering "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." to series today and they were right! The series has been picked up by the network for a full season and is expected to hit the airwaves this fall - no word on an episode count at this time. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that ABC will begin a "major marketing push" with the show this Sunday where a special look at the series will air before the season finale of "Once Upon a Time."

Clark Gregg reprises his role of Agent Phil Coulson from Marvel’s feature films as he assembles a small, highly select group of Agents from the worldwide law-enforcement organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D. Together they investigate the new, the strange, and the unknown across the globe, protecting the ordinary from the extraordinary.

Coulson’s team consists of Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), highly trained in combat and espionage, Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) expert pilot and martial artist, Agent Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker); brilliant engineer and Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) genius bio-chemist. Joining them on their journey into mystery is new recruit and computer hacker Skye (Chloe Bennet).

From Executive Producers Joss Whedon (Marvel’s The Avengers, ”Buffy the Vampire Slayer”); Jed Whedon & Maurissa Tancharoen, “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” pilot co-writers (“Dollhouse,” “Dr.Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog”); Jeffrey Bell (“Angel,” “Alias”); and Jeph Loeb (“Smallville”) comes Marvel’s first TV series. “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” is produced by ABC Studios and Marvel Television.

I'd like to see Joe Flanagan get a role in this. Loved him in Stargate: Atlantis.

that said, as much as I love the idea, I can see it being a short-lived series because of the tendency of shows like this requiring huge budgets for special effects.

It seems that CGI etc.. is getting good enough that it can be done cheaper and not look like crap. IMO anyway.

I hope this lasts, but I do not have hope.

are we looking at full superheroes? or just guys in the regular department.

I'll be checking this series out. It'll be interesting to see how they bring back Agent Coulson.

I wouldn't be surprised to see this show in some form bridge the gap between now (Avenger's) and Avenger's 2 along with what happens as a part of the main show storyline. Just my opinion.

I think the main characters are just normal agents but you will probably see them cross paths with some b-list heroes and villains.

There was a "leaked" teaser clip the otger day which appeared to feature the Hulk from a distance. Disney was quick to take it down but it's probably still floating around out there somewhere.

I'd say it will mostly be the regular agents, with small cameos/mentions of superheroes and probably some tie-ins to the Marvel movies.

I think it will probably only last a few seasons but really that probably should be enough.

Well, if Joss Whedon is in charge, I'm in. I loved Angel and most of his movies.

I think that's fake. None of the comics news sites are reporting it.

Looks pretty good. Is the black guy in the preview supposed to be Luke Cage?

****, they got Gun from Angel to be in this. I'm sold even more.

Its not a Whedon show without a actor/actress from a past Whedon show!:)

I've seen rumors that Cobie Smulders might have a cameo in the "pilot" as her Avenger's character "Maria Hill" (who she'll also play in next year's Captain America: The Winter Soldier) and join the show if its picked up for a second season since HIMYM is ending after next season.
