What a crowd at this game! I heard last night there was almost 11,000 people in attendance. I have to say I was somewhat suprised by the outcome (not totally, just somewhat).
I didn't get to see much of the second half because I had to leave early but Maryville's defense was FAST. Alcoa never could get in a rhythm. After Maryville marched down the field on their first possession (on runs by Ryan Talent) they kicked an onside kick. It was 14-0 before Alcoa ever got the ball. Mentally you could see it took the wind out of Alcoa. It was Spurrieresque.
I was impressed with the Maples kid. Nice speed, some nice moves and good hands. However, he almost made a HUGE mistake at the end of the first half by touching a punt inside 5 yard line. He was able to pick it up and run out past the 30 but that could have given Alcoa a lot of momentum.
I was disappointed I didn't get to see Dustin Lindsay do more. Physically he looks like a nice player. He had a couple of nice plays on defense and he really laid some kid out with a block to protect the QB.
