He is a good ball coach, and did pretty well against stiff acc competition. I agree with Maryland basketball goin down the tubes for a while.

I'm not much of a Williams fan, but he took Maryland to its first ever Final Four and then a national title. He continously coached players past their potential. I'm not sure what else he could have done to have had a better career. One quick glance at his coaching tree shows that he knows what he's doing.

What do y'all think about the likelihood of Sean Miller going to MD?

Folks on Memphis Boards are worried about a Miller to MD, Pastner to AZ scenario.

Why would Memphis fans be worried about someone taking an awful coach off their hands?

Even though Gary W was a big part of the new AD hire a few months ago, I wonder if something happened behind the scenes. You have a 22 yr head coach set in his ways and a guy coming in with a new vision. Just a thought.

If Debbie Yow couldn't win a power struggle with Gary, some guy who's been there 15 minutes would have no chance. Williams said he was going to retire after last year, then changed his mind. He's simpy had enough.

Probably right, but that's 2 hc's gone in 4 months. Just a conspiracy theory.

Wildly underappreciated for his entire career.

He only made two finals fours, and that was back to back. Was he a good coach? Yes. But it's not like he was an amazing coach or anything of that sort.

Good coach. Don't think he was ever a special coach or anything. If he doesn't get Juan Dixon, he's basically a more glorified Bruce Pearl (and before I get flamed, he's a way better coach than Pearl, I'm just pointing out his lack of tourney success). While Maryland isn't exactly a powerhouse by any means, there are tons of good players in DC/Baltimore, etc.

"I started thinking about it last year after we tied Duke for the ACC title," Williams told The Post's John Feinstein in a telephone interview. "I've been doing this a long time and I thought it might be time to do something else. After [Debbie] Yow left, I thought I might enjoy it more this year and I really did like working with Kevin Anderson. He's a straight shooter. But I think I'd been worn down by the previous 15 years [with Yow]. It grinds on you.

I guess Debbie Yow didn't take on any of the character traits of her sisters.

I don't know very much about Williams, but what is so wrong about his post?

I'll admit I don't know much about Williams outside his wikipedia page, so I'll defer to your knowledge on this subject, but I don't really understand why the post you quoted was so inaccurate. Is it that difficult to win at Maryland?

Also, since you said it earlier, why do you think he was under appreciated at OSU? I wasn't alive when he was coaching there, but he never went above .500 in conference play. Was the program a lot worse off when he took over?
