Maryville:
Comes off a close win over Halls last week, but will it prove to be enough against Alcoa tonight? Thoughts?

Key Players: Cody McCoy, Mason Trenda, Thomas Shuler, Buddy Jones, and the entire defense!

Alcoa:
Comes off a 63-3 victory over a less likely opponent in Spring Hill last Friday. With Randall Cobb at the University of Kentucky it's going to be up to Chase James to lead his team to victory against Maryville? Thoughts?

I was at the game. Maryville was the better team, as usual. However, Alcoa could have had a break toward the end of the game. It was 3rd down and 17 from Alcoa's 20 yard line (unofficial spot) -- 7 min to go in the 4th quarter. Maryville is up 20-13.

Alcoa ran play action, and Maryville was called for defensive holding because the Alcoa receiver was going to be apparently "wide open." The Maryville defender smartly grabbed the Alcoa WR to prevent a TD (which would have tied the game).

Apparently in high school defensive holding is a 10 yard penalty, but not an automatic 1st down. So Alcoa still had a 3rd and 7 that they didn't convert.

Anyway, good game by both teams as usual. Alcoa could have maybe caught a break with a pass interference call, rather than a defensive holding call -- but in my estimation, Maryville was the best team on the field.

Both teams looked like state championship caliber teams.

I watched a team tonight that has a chance, strong emphasis on chance, to beat Maryville in the State Championship game. Henry County.

First of all I'm a Rebel Fan and was at the game last night. The Rebels are always the Rebels. However, I was very impressed with Alcoa. NO ONE in AA will come close to the Tornadoes... Blount County Football Rules!
