Maybe Phils Worst Enemy

If you haven't noticed, we hired the anti-Mumme, and got a real-to-life, dead mummy in Brooks. Tubby isn't exactly Captain Outrageous, either. There's no one more boring than RB, but that said, there's nothing I would rather see than a win against the Vols. It's nothing personal. To be a Kentucky fan means to have a deep desire to beat Tennessee. And somehow, Fulmer just has our number.

But back to the topic. There's no way that Phil is threatened by any success that Pearl can put together. It's like comparing apples and, ahem... oranges. :birgits_giggle:
No offense taken, now no offense given. Look in your own backyard, if your Cats were St. Xavier in bball, you think that the pressure on RB would be more or less?

Less.

Winning begets winning attitudes and doing things right (discipline) points fingers at those who deny their own problems (CPF).

And, once again, it isn;t Pearl vs Phil it's Pearl's proven reults via discipline that sets the contrast.

Who's crying now? Phil? I hope he learned something about regaining the home (court/field) advantage. And having some cahoonas. Requiring discipline on and off the field.

fulmer is his own worst enemy, by the things he says and the way he coaches. he never admits anything is wrong its all about execution and his style of offense sucks. he needs to turn the kids loose and let them have some fun or he won't be around after next season.

I really came to the board today to read about the Vols basketball fortunes. Instead, I see all these anti-Tennessee crap threads related to football.

There is anti-Tennessee, meaning fans who do not want UT to do well, and there are those who think that Fulmer is not getting it done here and want UT to win championships again. You need to learn the difference.

Phil ended up of campus as you know but the UT football team, inc Phil, had more than their fair share of hoedowns mostly at the ATO house in the party basement. "Gatoring" was lying on the floor writhing around.

Don't know about Zook, but Phil, Priest, Scott, Kell and several others Gatored in their share of beer. :eek:lol: :eek:lol: :eek:lol: :eek:lol:

I talk to Vol sheep and real fans all the time and even the sheep mention that pearl has set a new tone for UT sports, a swagger and theatrics we haven't had since Ray Mears...in any of our sports.

As the Pearl rises, so does the heat on Phil.

I know the difference. It appears that you may not.

No particular comment, but for the time being there's no doubt Pearl is a better COACH than Fulmer. Of course, it goes w/o saying Fulmer is light years behind Pat & such comparisions are purely silly. UT has only one Great Coach & what appears to be an up and coming Coach playing on her court. For those that want to even think Fulmer is in Pat's league...keep dreaming.

If Pearl keeps it going & gets the talent he so desperately needs, I see TBA being called Pearl's Palace. Note I want royalities on that name when it becomes that.

I love BP and think he is just what was needed for us. I think he will be successful.

But different coaches have different styles. PF will never be like BP. He wasn't like BP when he won the NC in 1998. He wasn't like him this year at 5-6.

comparing the two are silly, i agree with that...it's real easy to jump on the bball bandwagon right now. he's saying all the right things, doing all the right things, and getting some big w's along they way...all good things for that program. the difference is the expectation level for the two, and the tradition level for the two....and to think that the admin on the hill are sitting around with CPF and going "hey, Phil, look at what CBP doing, when are you going to do this?" is kind of silly. Phil is not getting any more heat than usual, regardless of what CBP does or does not do...

:D It will take a couple of years to rate Pearl as a coach. No doubt he is much better than Buzz. He seems to be a great motivator that can get players to play above their ability.

I have noticed on this board if you do not hate Fulmer and state something positive about him you get attacked. It reminds me of politics. See it my way or we will heap abuse on you.

Agree 100%. The political analogy is a good one - as positions become more extreme, you are tempted to take one-side so fully to counter the claims of the other that even your own arguments become an extreme version of your position. I would imagine that most here are either slightly pro-Fulmer or slightly anti-Fulmer. It is doubtful that any think his last few years have been his best; but differences seem to revolve around the implications and possible solutions.

this is probably very accurate...i know i have probably taken my Pro Fulmer stance simply because there were so many on the complete opposite side of the spectrum (and it didn't hurt that some of them were just downright hateful to our coach and some our fans who support the guy). when the truth is i think Fulmer has a lot of work to do, and is primarily to blame for last season's debacle....poor off season decision with the qbs and wrs, discipline, and i think we're all tired of the same old stuff that we see out of CPF...the clapping on the sidelines after every play good or bad, the "work like heck" quotes after a loss etc....but at the same time, as much as i can get frustrated with him and same old same old, i still think he's earned the right to fix a problem he's created. and the reason that's justified in my mind, is what he's done for this program in the past. As bad as i think this team might have been the past few years on offense, he had a previous 8-9 years that were pretty good...so let's see if he can fix it.

If not, we'll find out, and i'm sure appropriate changes will be made.

Two male coaches in the two largest sports on the UT campus, one who is sliding down The Hill, the other who is ascending it.

I don't know how it could be more appropriate.

Uh, you did see Phil at the game, did you not?
