Merryville and Alcoa are public schools in county that allows open enrollment inside its borders. If you are out of zone you have to wait your turn and pay tuition. So you would rather punish programs that are operating within the rules. With the success that these two programs have had, tssaa camps out there every year. They are successful for a couple of reasons. Quality coaching, good not the best athletes and success breeds success. Two of the winningest coaches in the history of the tssaa. That is all.

True/ But how are they getting those players. Business guys giving Studs parents jobs to move to district.

Blount County has been one of the fastest growing counties in TN for the better part of a decade now. Not saying they don't get transfers from time to time but I can tell you most of these athletes have lived in Blount County most of their lives. In case you didn't notice, they do have open enrollment in the county. Happens everywhere when programs are successful. It's not just those 2 programs, look around, Faragut, Oak Ridge, Riverdale, ect.

People always speculate and question success. Quarles and Rankin are two of the most successful coaches in the history of TSSAA. They both have good athletes but their coaching is superior. Makes all the difference in title games.

Because this would explain perfectly why former Maryville RB Adrian "Tank" Baker lived practically across the street from Heritage High School, and why former Alcoa QB Austin Tallent lived in Townsend. They allow for the atheltes to come in on a waved-tuition status, but don't allow the same opportunity for all Blount County Students. I know this because my freshman year at Heritage LB Michael Cermak and another player named Jordan Caughron received letters from Maryville offering to wave their tuition for their "academic and athletic contributions."

I say they just need to get rid of private schools being allowed to compete against public schools altogether. All private schools on one side, no multiplier allowed, all public schools in another. It's the fairest way to do it. If one can give scholarships and one can't, then they need to stop mixing and matching. It'd be like letting a D1 school compete against D3 teams.

Maryville poaches kids from all over East TN. Granted a bunch of families move there for their kids to play ball, but I remember a bunch of coaches contacting Burnette when we played together in Halls. 8th grade he moves to Maryville, and then 4 years and 60 wins later he graduates.

A bunch of their success comes from their youth leagues all running the same offenses and defenses that the high school does I believe though. I may be incorrect, but their system seems to be well established. Before they get to high school.

More power to them, Quarles is a baller. I hated them for four years with a passion though.
