Why not just switch the two dates. Make the VP debate this Friday and reschedule the presidential debate for another time. What am I missing here?

I'm starting to think that the real objective here was to get the VP debate postponed -- until Nov 5th.

It started this morning when Obama called McCain and asked him to sign a statement with Obama calling on Congress to pass the Paulson plan.

McCain said he would call back.

Six hours later he did and said he would sign the statement.

Minutes later, McCain announced that he was suspending the campaign to work on the bill and asked Obama to do the same thing.

In other words, both are trying to look like they are marching the other around.
