McCoy has been a lockdown corner during his first season with the Vols after transferring in from Oregon State. The Texas native has not allowed a touchdown all season and ranks fifth in the SEC in passes defended (7) and seventh in pass breakups (5), averaging 1.0 passes defended per game, which is tied for fifth in the league.

The sophomore corner also has two interceptions this season, which is tied for seventh in the SEC. Both of his picks have come in conference play, which ranks tied for second in the league.

Among cornerbacks with over 200 pass coverage snaps this season, McCoy ranks third in the SEC and 10th in the nation in coverage grade (85.4) according to PFF (played 208 coverage snaps). Opponents have targeted him 37 times and he’s allowed only 45.9 percent of those passes to be completed, which is the fifth-best among cornerbacks in the SEC with over 200 coverage snaps.

Against rival Alabama, McCoy logged a team-high-tying eight tackles (five solo) to go along with half a tackle for loss, one pass breakup and an incredible one-handed interception in the end zone while covering star receiver Ryan Williams that prevented a touchdown and was returned 54 yards.

McCoy was named the Thorpe Award National Defensive Back of the Week after a sensational performance at Oklahoma in Tennessee’s SEC opener, in which he registered three tackles, one pass breakup and an interception that he returned 17 yards. In the win over the Sooners, he logged 48 snaps and did not allow a completion, holding OU quarterbacks to a 0.0 passer grade according to PFF.

Maybe the nomination will subconsciously get him more targets. He's been open numerous times without a target

Then he should do what former Vols coach, Ed Orgeron told players who said the complex scheme of the departed OC made them not know what to do. Ed told them, Just hit somebody. I think you got the WR McCoy mixed with the DB McCoy. Try this again, and next time get:

UK has thrown 7 interceptions to CBs , McCoy should get at least another one this week. Looking forward to him shutting down Brown, he is always chippy in the UT game.

We had this guy back in 09 who was pretty good. Eric something.
My 10 year old son is the starting safety for his team and they are currently in the playoffs here in Florida. He is actually pictured here on my profile. I recently showed him videos of Eric Berry for the first time. His eyes lit up in a way where I have never seen them he was so excited. He saw an incredible athlete almost run every interception back for a TD. Some of those interceptions average 6 players trying to tackle EB before he goes down. Until that day, he was a little miffed that he was not playing offense but that all changed that day. Now he leads the team in interceptions and is a complete ball hawk.

Who’s the Real McCoy?
Honestly it's Bru. I think it wont change between these 2 McCoys for a few reasons.

1. For reasons not really his fault Bru's stay here has lasted longer than expected and longer than Jermods will. Just basic math on that at this point.

2. Bru directly followed JJ and was like him 2.0 Some might say better than 2.0 because the lack of off-field stuff. But his timing was great.

3. Bru is flat-out blue collar. His diva level is low to non-existent at least outwardly. That is something that resonates with our fanbase. He talks with his shoulder in the sternum of an opposing DB.

4. His chant is epic everytime I am watching a game with non vols fans I get to explain that BRUUUUUU is not BOOOOOOOOOO. he just fit in period.

IU don't think its a difference in talent I think it more about timing and injury stuff. But, I think statistically Jermod will probably have a bigger palpable impact. Bru much like JJ low-key makes is biggest impact on paper in the run game. The fact he is a beast possession WR when healthy and can break one over a linebacker/safety head from time to time is massive.
