'25 MD DL Darrion Smith (Tennessee commit)

RC said TN likes him, but is not doing “everything “ to keep him from AU
In other words we’re not throwing a big enough bag his way. I feel like he’s a plenty good player but maybe Auburn is playing the long game here to try and pull his teammate next year imo at least by doing “everything” to get him. May be an entirely different staff at Auburn after next year anyways.

That makes sense.
Our roster is better than Auburns. So I could see them doing that

Matt Ray just said that at this point it feels like Barn has the inside track with him. Promising him early playing time due to immediate need. Guess we will see how it plays out.

I know this much: i have been pleasantly surprised with our classes every year under this staff as they have gotten better each year. We are making the playoffs and going 10-2 while the 4-year recruiting averages and combined talent on our roster says we should lose to Bama every time and at best split games 50-50 with Flarda. We also have done a GREAT job at filling in deficient spots in the roster thru the portal. I trust this staff and what we are building. Cant wait until we have the same 4 class talent on our roster as UGA and Bama...because we will be nearly unstoppable. GO VOLS. NO recruit or player is bigger than this team, or program.

Fwiw rosters have a cap of 105 moving forward. Tennessee has 123 players on roster this year for reference. Not saying he's pushed out but could make some sense that they're not doing everything when you got hopefully a guy like Campbell and others coming in.
Believe the 105 number is the cap for scholarships. It is the increase from the 85 number. Rosters can be however large with non-scholarship players added.

That hasn’t passed yet. Judge didn’t sign the settlement agreement. It’ll still be 85 in 2025. 83 for Tennessee.

Guess I have to eat crow. If passed, it looks like rosters capped at 105 with all players on scholarship.

“However, with the new roster limits, opportunities for walk-ons will diminish significantly. Every FBS roster will now be limited to 105 athletes, a 23-spot reduction from the current average, and every one of those spots is entitled to a scholarship.”

The SEC and, I believe the Big Ten too, have announced that they are sticking to 85 next year. I bet it goes up in 2026 though. Just waiting for direction from the court.

So is this guy just going to wait until the 4th and sign with Auburn? I’m sure the writers will make a big deal out of the flip even though we’ve been expecting it for a while..

Yeah, it's always nice to see kids show their appreciation to the team that accepted their commitment only to flip on signing day. Stay classy. But as was mentioned this has been expected for a LONG while so...................

That cuts both ways.

It seems in this case, it might have been mutual once Campbell became an expected commit to UT.

I think they were happy to take his commitment but he never seemed committed, they would have taken him and Campbell IMO with the numbers increasing to 105 but no need to fight to hang onto someone who's looking to leave since the commitment. JMO
