He was suppose to be the Vols best receiver. Then word came he could possibly be the best to grace the confines of Neyland Stadium.

Will Bobby Meachem arrive in 2006?

I give him a little bit of a pass due to the QB situation the last two years.

I made a comment about him recently and someone reminded me that he had a bad ankle last year.

I read that he's dropped about 10-12 pounds too.

Exactly, if my memory serves me correctly, Tim McGee and Pearless Price didn't have breakout years until Jr, or Sr. years.

We'll have one QB next year and our offense will click like it used to.....So I'd say Bob will grace Neyland Stadium with his presence this year, as well as opposing teams stadiums

Yeah, he and Bret Smith both let me down a lot this past year. Two years ago, it seemed like they were both Cris Carter clones, because all they caught were TDs. I think Meachem's first three catches were actually long TD passes. Then came 2005... Hopefully they've gotten the chip off their shoulder or whatever made them play so poorly last year will be taken care of this offseason. Go Vols

Yes, he had a bad ankle. But what was wrong with his hands?

There were a few that he should've caught, but I don't think there's anything wrong with hands. I think he couldn't jump high enough to catch the Ainge ball and ran out of Clausen's reach.

He has all of the physical tools. What he seems to lack is precise route running and effort. A good coach can straighten that out. He's also been hampered by nagging injuries and all of the QB issues. Will see this year if he can finally live up to the hype.

if not this year then never.

somone has to get the ball to him first. and quit rotating in and out so many recievers stick with about 4.

we use way to many receivers in these games.

i agree with oklavol i was at several games this year and he does not have very good hands. he seems to give up on his routes alittle to easy too. hopefully trooper and Cut will take care of all the little things and he will develope into the player we recruited.

Meachem has spent his time at UT injured. He has never been healthy except for the UAB game in his 2 years at UT

I know he has not been healthy but what football player makes it all year at 100%, not many. The break down was fundamentals, or might I say coaching or the lack of. Playmakers with great fundamentals make plays. I know Joey Kent or Marcus Nash wasn't healthy every game but their precise route running and/or strong hands made plays.

I don't think Nash and Kent would have caught all those balls if they were forced to play with a torn up knee and a sprained ankle. I agree with 67 . . . Meachem has had some really bad luck with injuries and hasn't played very many snaps at 100% in his career.

Meachum doesn't have Peyton Manning throwing it to him either.

I, for one, really believe that you probably won't recognize him OR some of the other receivers come September.

Maybe I wear "Orange-tinted shades," maybe I'm tired of hearing about the season that wasn't, maybe I'm used to UT being "Wide Receiver U," or maybe I've been blinded by the Pearlmeister's killer blazer. Call me crazy.

Teams and players go through "slumps," and we've had one. Guess we'll see this fall.

OK, OK. Back to business. AUBURN WEDNESDAY! GET TO THE TOMMY!

Meach, Hannon and Fayton all had talus issues. By this time the QB ordeal had started. Time to recoup, re-build confidence, and work back into speed turned off many t-shirt fans.

Smith, Swain are proven talent. Meach, Briscoe, Taylor et cetra, let'em fight day in and day out for playing time.

I think Meachem will break out this year. Meach was not the only WR to have a less than stellar year in 05....In fact, all of the big four including Swain and Smith looked pretty bad at times. The only WR I was really impressed with was Briscoe in the limited role he played. I don't think it is fair to discount Meach with the situation he was in last season. He was nagged by an ankle, the QB situation was a mess, and my understanding is that it really takes 2 full years for a player to get back to 100% when coming off a major ACL injury. Cutt will take care of the lazy rout running and lack of concentration in general from the offense and Meach has all the tools to be a big time receiver.

i said it last year before the season started, that we would have the best receivers in the SEC, but no one may know about it given our qb situation.

I'll say it again this off season. We may have the best receivers in the SEC. The qb situation should not be a "situation" this year. There shouldn't be 8-9 guys rotating in and out this year.

I really think that this season, we'll see better production out of all the receivers. at least we better.
