Medvedev says Putin should be PM

99.9% Expected.

Next Step? Transfer of more authority to the post of prime minister.

Assessment?? It's not good - but it isn't apocalyptic either. I think that there is a general yearning in the Russian populous for stability at the top....its almost like a Stockholm Syndrome - they want some of the order that they had with the 20th century dictatorships....but with the some of the advantages the 21st century have brought them: this might be that middle ground. I don't know the Russian constitution, but it probably doesn't set term limits for prime ministers....or this portion could be more easily changed that presidential term limits...though like I said, I don't know that.

For some odd reason this reminds me of Hitler and his rise to power.

Well...depending on how much authority the Duma gives to the prime minister....it could be the beginning of something interesting. I think that as long as it remains transparent and accepted by the people, then things will remain on the better side of uncomfortable. However, things could certainly progress down from there.

They loaded the power down into the President's chair. What Putin did is put some weak moderate in as his heir. The moderate part gets more support while the weak part means Putin is the driving power behind the throne. Consider him a "Richelieu".

Putin will be in Russian politics until he dies

He is too well-connected within that country and he has too much power as President or not.

He made a lot of that country the way it is today connection wise and will stay that powerful as PM or not.

The story coming out showing him with a $40bn bankroll shows he has political power and now power in the private sector as well. This shows he controls politics and a large element of the economy as well.

And he likes to flaunt that power, and gets rid of anyone in his way. Maybe he should change his last name to Clinton. :)

No. Clinton could take serious notes off of this guy. The Clintons together could not even remotely come close to thinking like Vlad.
