Russia 'not afraid' of a new Cold War - Russia - MSNBC.com

MOSCOW - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, speaking in the midst of one of the lowest points in the Russia-West relationship since the breakup of the Soviet Union 17 years ago, said Tuesday that his country did not seek a new Cold War — but neither was it afraid of one.
"We are not afraid of anything, including the prospect of a new Cold War," Medvedev was quoted as saying Tuesday by the ITAR-Tass news agency. "But we don't want it and in this situation everything depends on the position of our partners."
The statement comes hours after Medvedev recognized the independence of two Georgian rebel provinces, defying the West. The recognition — which Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice described as "extremely unfortunate" — follows a short but intense war with Western-allied Georgia earlier this month.

Thoughts?

Cold War is good for bi'ness in 'merica. Would put our intelligence services back on top and would move some of our shelved weapons platforms along. Would also stop this farce that the Soviets are somehow the good guys.

Medvedev's contention that the prospect of slipping back to the Cold War is based entirely upon the position of everyone else says that they feel no culpability whatsoever in taking over Ossetia. Incidents of this nature is exactly what typified their cold war persona.

I'm looking forward to it. Give me the keys, I'm ready to fly again (like Dennis Quaid in Independence Day).

Thank you!

:hi:
no need bro. They educated me, trained me and were a great place for a guy like me to find a place in the world. I would do it all over again.

Probably why I spew so much rhetoric today. Our country has done unbelievable things for me (plus I got to fly at 5 feet off the trees under a night vision system).

Ok, so if all of what you say is true......... Bush secretly ordered Russia to do this to boost the economy?

Who me? Do I think Bush did this..... no. I think Russia believes it has a goldmine in which to challenge the US in its oil reserves and they think we should have another go round.

I think they found themselves at a very important crossroads, saw an opening to greater expand themselves in the oil arena and jumped on it. It does look like their intentions and means of accomplishing their goals are a rehash of old style Soviet tactics but that is to be expected considering the master mind behind it.
