Anybody else hear this? She describes herself as being "faithful to the original core values of the GOP while open to the realities of our changing world."" She summarized her view on the current status of the GOP with 3 points:

(1) Most of our nation wants our nation to succeed;

(2) most people are ready to move on to the future, not live in the past; and

(3) most of the old school Republicans are scared sh*tless of that future.

She also said this:

"I am concerned about the environment. I love to wear black. I think government is best when it stays out of people's lives and business as much as possible. I love punk rock. I believe in a strong national defense. I have a tattoo. I believe government should always be efficient and accountable. I have lots of gay friends. And yes, I am a Republican,"

What say you...is this moderation, or idiocy?

I have no problem with what she said.....

Problem is, her father is none of those things.

He is no different than Obama.

Neither. She is just not to be pigeon-holed.

I think that is what she is trying to tell the lemmings/blind-faith leadership of the party.

Truth be told, both the top Dems and Republicans could use a big injection of some common sense in this regard.

she needs to pull her head from her arse on point 3.

I'd want to know a little more about what she means by "future". If she means social globalism, SCOTUS citing international law at every turn etc then yeah, "old school republicans" will want nothing to do with that future.

I'm just not sure what she means by that. Then again, I rather doubt she does either.

America leans too far forward in that little foxhole and the Dems will cease getting votes long into the future.

Agreed.

Still, if he thought he could get away with it Obama might and I'm all but convinced Eric Holder would. In a lot of ways the latter gives me the heebee jeebees more than the former, if for no other reason than he's under less public scrutiny. (gsvol nonwithstanding)

Socially, I have no idea why conservatives are so crazy over trivial issues........

I think that right there is a good point. If someone asks me, I will answer that I am socially conservative. However, with that said on most issues I'm usually a live and let live guy. And to further that, I also believe that at the end of the day the FEDERAL gov't has no business in that camp anyway. That really honestly should be left up to the states. Vermont wants gay marriage? Cool with me I live in Tennessee, and I shouldn't dicatate to THEM what should/should not be legal. (I'm using this as an illustration only, not to open a needless debate over whether gay marriage should or should not be legal).

The only issue I personally struggle with is abortion, and the only way I can explain it is to me I feel that it equates to offing an elderly person because they are no longer productive (IE they both are lives). However, if a guy was pro-choice but believed in limited government, 2nd Amendment, and fiscal responsibility I definitely would not let that one factor get in the way. Because, I think too many poloticians are in Washington today because they know how to butter up to the Christian Coalition, but when they get there they act like corrupt drunken sailors just like any "Liberal" politician does. W comes to mind, personally, every time I say that.

The only reason that the garbage social issue du jour matters in elections is because our heartily left leaning press has found it a good tool in mucking up real issues and it tends to help their pet candidates most often.

Those who truly give a rat's arse about those issues already know how they're voting, so the general ploy is to make the social conservative lot seem draconian and idiotic (which might be the case). Amazes me that a ridiculous fringe issue like abortion is a campaign topic noteworthy of any debate whatsoever.

Meghan McCain needs to be honest with herself and her father, she's not a republican. At best she's a libertarian, worst case scenario is that she's a Kos kiddie who's 15 minutes of fame keep getting reset by other useful idiots.
