Does Vanderbilt really have to keep the court setup that way for an advantage? I think that's hillarious. They should be forced to change it in my opinion. But oh well who cares they aren't relevant anyways, cant take the whole court with ya to the NCAA tourney!!

I'm so happy the NCAA Tournament is in Nashville this year. Maybe I'll get to see them lose to an 11 seed in person!

I think it's because they are too cheap to make the change. It will cost $$$. They are better this year but we should get the two wins. GBO!!!

This is brought up pretty much every year, and every year the answer is the same: it's not changing anytime soon. I hate that place with a passion.

I personally love the set up of the team benches on the ends and the elevated court.

The whole place looks like it was designed by a 5 year old with ADD and some legos.

More like it is old. Memorial was built in the 50s with seating for about 8000 but has been expanded over the years thus the appearance you believe it looks like an ADD project. Unlike many schools Vandy has opted to avoid the tear down-build-tear down mentality in order to perserve their bb history. Its also the reason Memorial is called the Fenway Park of College Basketball

I don't like Vandys arena. It has nothing to do with my allegiance but its just crappy looking.

1. Hinkle Fieldhouse is older, is a national historic landmark, and doesn't look gimmicky.

2. Who called Memorial the "Fenway Park of Basketball?" I looked up Memorial on Wikipeidia and the page makes that same reference, but the citation takes you to a VUCommodores.com page about Memorial where there is no mention of it being the Fenway of anything.

Fenway? haha! I've heard that before but it sort of slid out of my mind as soon as I heard it. That gym is HORRIBLE!

This!

Was walking around next to it Saturday night and it made me really look forward to the tourney. Great place for a game and awesome atmosphere.

Who the hell calls it this? I'm not sure I'd be comfortable making that comparison.

I've always thought the NCAA should get involved to require ALL teams have the benches on the sideline. Vandy is the only team to have benches on the baseline, and it is definitely an advantage. Until the NCAA gets some balls and makes them change it, things will stay the way they are now.

some of their fans mostly really die hard old fans. Memorial is special to them though everyone else thinks the place sucks. Being built in the 50s its not very fan friendly for sure. They've done the best they can when they've renovated but there's only so much you can do. Still, its theirs and they seem to like it because you never hear anyone mention a plan to build a new gym.

Keep in mind that we thought Stokley was allsome too before TBA. I have some good memories but also remember watching games in the old wooden folding seats. Even saw The Police there on their Synchronicity tour.

they tried to make vandy fix it maybe back in the 80's and if i remember correctly the engineers said the only way they could fix it would be to build a new arena.

while it gives visiting teams a huge disadvantage I think it screws vandy in the long run.
It has to be wierd for them when they travel and when they play in tourneys

Their track record in the SECT and NCAAT would definitely help support your theory.
