the streak is not totally dead. The media has transferred it to Calipari and they are now tracking his conference game win streak. Until he loses an SEC game we will continue to hear of it

How else do you assemble a team at UTEP now? It's not the old days with Tiny Archibald and Tim Floyd out finding diamonds in the rough for The Bear.
I'm not saying he has alternatives. It's a damn tough way to do it and almost universally blows up, but they can freaking play.

I don't care if you're in the MAAC, the MEAC, or the SWAC, 64 league wins in a row is a stunning run.

With the exception of Caracter and Polk, that group's been together for a couple of years. Tony's got a pretty good handle on them. His group looks like Eagle Scouts compared to Tark's samurai sword wielding teams at Fresno, for example.

But Caracter and Polk are the difference makers. Castoffs are tough. I'm scared of 'em.

UTEP is a great example of a program that really got hurt by the restrictions on the amount of time you could spend recruiting and the number of contacts you could have with players. Haskins used to send Tim out the day after the season ended and tell him not to come back to El Paso til he had found at least three guys who could play.

Hell, it's 500 miles from nowhere and Juarez isn't helping.

I got to speak with Tim Hardaway on occasion when I lived in Miami. Hearing him describe El Paso was Richard Pryor quality comedy. Tim Bug certainly knew he wasn't in Chicago anymore when he got there.
