Memphis loses to a 9-10 SMU team

This loss puts Tigers out of NCAA for sure. Barring the CUSA Tournament championship, Tigers are NIT bound.

Funny thing is there are some Tiger fans who just don't understand how we are losing these games. It's called having 3 legit basketball players and a bunch of walk ons.

I came to terms with this before the season started, so I am not surprised nor disappointed. Any win is a good win this year.

My Tigers will take a few more lumps this year. Teams better get them while they can. Back to business as usual next year when the Memphis Magic gets on campus.

Memphis has a lot more talent than SMU. Losing to SMU is a joke.

Comparable to Saban's first year ULM loss?

What's the excuse gonna be next year? Saban has since won an secc and a national championship. Pastner is a joke, and Memphis is too, better get used to it.

Not a memphis fan at all....the book is still out on Pastner,He has proved so far he can recruit but he has got to prove he can coach on the court!

Pretty quick to call him a joke.

He was thrust into a pretty crappy situation. Might want to give him a year or two. Similar to Dooley somewhat.

Calipari left Memphis in the position that they are in. He is a snake. He should be held accountable for the issues that happened on his watch when he skipped to UK.

Coach Pastner will have a few years to set-up his program. I still despise the Tigers but don't hate them near as much with Calipari gone.

If Pastner were the Boy Wonder head coach that people are making him out to be, he'd be getting more out of what he has. I realize they don't have an elite roster, but they should have enough to win CUSA. By a quick count, they have the same number of 4-5* players as Tennessee right now (6). I know that stars aren't everything, but it's a quick way to gauge the overall talent level of a team. Six 4* players should easily be the best team in CUSA.

It looks like UK has 10 4-5* players.

Realistically, what more do you expect? 32 year old coach who gets a gutted program. In his first few months on the job he has to keep a team in place, assemble a staff, finish a schedule, and recruit.

This team is a missed 3 from having a win over #1 Kansas and a couple of bounces from wins over UT, UTEP, and UMass. Syracuse is the only team to dominate the Tigers this year. SMU was a bad loss because of poor shooting. I'd call that a testament to Pastner's abilities of getting the most out of this bunch, not a weakness.

Memphis has 3 players, period. Williams, Witherspoon, and Mack. The rest were marginal role players on previous years teams. If Coleman was so great, he would be at UK right now, not Memphis. He is a project. Recruiting star ratings are irrelevant after the first year. That's when you see who can play and who can't.

Believe it or not, there are some pretty good teams in CUSA. UTEP and UAB can play with anyone in the country.

It is realistic to think that this year's Tigers should COMPETE for the CUSA title. To think they should dominate as in previous years is simply unrealistic.

The rest were role players because of the talent level of their teammates. Willie Kemp? We would have loved to have had that marginal role player in our backcourt the last four seasons. What a waste of a career.

And, I never said I expected them to dominate like in recent years. I am speaking more to the overall, top-to-bottom weakness of the league.

Willie Kemp sucks. If he had placed more emphasis on basketball than fraternity life, he may have developed more as a player. His waste of a career has been his own doing.

CUSA has actually gotten better this year. UAB, UTEP, and Tulsa have all improved. Houston has one of the hardest players to guard in the country (Coleman is leads the Nation in scoring and steals). UAB has beaten Cincy by 27, Butler, and Arkansas this year. UTEP beat the snot out of OU and has more pro level talent than most SEC schools.
