Memphis New bridge ?

I bet traffic is backed up to Jackson ?

About to find out. Its BBQ fest weekend so Riverside is closed off (Riverside connects to 40 and 55) and they stupidly put in some excessive speed bumps on Riverside as well

Edit - Not too bad. Backed up to 101 connector. If you need to get downtown, just get off on Madison exit. A question for TDOT - why are there so many potholes around 40/101 in Memphis - its not like that in Nashville. Second, the Madison Avenue trolley extension has to be the biggest waste of $$$ ever. From my vantage point, 55 bridge is moving but slow. Will expect it to really back up once you get more big trucks out.

I used Sam Cooper this morning to downtown, and it was fine. But, I don't go the south loop from my house.

Not sure that speed bumps are terrible on Riverside as you should never really have to get from 40 to 55. But then again, I work downtown and haven't been for leisure in a while and in that area.

I honestly think that the general disdain for Memphis from people in middle and east TN plays into decisions made by state authorities on how to allocate funds for repairs like this.

Pardon the pun but the relationship between TDOT and Shelby County officials is fractured. The inability to maintain interstates in Shelby County, projects with cut corners (I40-240 connection; 240-55 connection), projects that run 20 years behind schedule (385), and the failure of the state to do I-69 and I-22 work leads to this distrust. Projects like this keep getting put on the back burner while those in Middle and East TN aren't.

I thought it was just cracked.

I’ve heard two different 911 calls made by the engineers to Memphis dispatch about immediately stopping traffic from driving on the bridge. Quite comical. Makes sense that the dispatchers were confused and had to ask for explanations. It’s not an everyday call, and the engineers were using acronyms and technical terms to describe the fracture.

Different than the shooting/robbery call that they normally receive..

No issue here. Local BBQ as good as it is, wasn't enough of an enticement to go that way.

For sure....but one engineer stated "we have critical findings in one of the members that has split." Does he speak like that at home to his family? You gotta give it in layman's terms if you want something done quickly.

I have to agree with this but add in most of West Tennessee. Until McWherter became governor, West Tn was way behind on many things not just Shelby County/Memphis.

You can look at all the progress on I-69 in West Tennessee and realize that is true....

Interesting I'd assumed that things like this would have been coordinated through TDOT.
