memphis vs UT game thread

No he didn't back it up, he had a heck of a game, but I didn't see any gangbangers in the stands. Every city or anywhere you go has its bad spots. Some cities are worse than others. Yes Memphis may be in the upper 25% of that category but you don't bad mouth a place especially when you have to go there and play.

you just verified his argument right there... also If memphis was my home town like it is for bradshaw, I would say whatever i want about it also. Once you are a d-I player and you get asked to make a comment about your home town, by all means say whatever you feel like saying...

we still havent beat a team this year that our football team beat. and we havent lost to a team that our football team lost to... so i say we are going to woop florida!!

We lost because we were outmanned.

Agreed - if you watched the game and came away thinking those guys didn't give a strong effort, well I just don't know what to say...

I love the Pearl approach - This was without a doubt the best team we've faced all year.

I don't agree with the comments but:

1) he played the best game in his college career

2) as the announcers explained it, he was referring to the experience he had while living/playing in Memphis.

I don't condone but he played his ass off and clearly got into the heads of the Memphis players.

Let me explain something to you. Dane Bradshaw came from a nice neigborhood, one of the best high schools in the south, academically. He couldn't tell you what a gangbanger looked like. He just mouthed off. I live here and I know Dane's background very well, so he ran off at the mouth haphazardly ! Please Believe !

As I said, I don't condone the comments. Not sure why he made them but they did seem to fire him up.

still doesnt take away that he played one hell of a game...

:D Tenn played hard and lost to a more talented team. Tenn. will get better each year Pearl is there.

i know ut was undermanned but with a great chance at an upset, i can't help to feel how biased the refs were. am i just crazy or what?

We're outmanned in every game. We didn't get many points off the bench tonight. That's what hurt us the most in the end.

Oh no he had the best game of his life. I like Dane Bradshaw, he played basketball on a state championship team with my former little league player Travis Strong, who plays for East Tennessee State. I just think the spotlight got the best of him.

I didn't come away with that feeling. Inconsistent maybe. I did think they were quick to call the technical on Dorsey for UM. But I wasn't screaming at the TV about it
:p

It'll be the same way next year when Memphis visits Ut. The refs will always be a little more biased for the home team.

I think we're going to need a little patience this year. Personally, I think we're ahead of where I thought we would be.

Overall, I think the Pearl approach is awesome - I think we'll make the tourney this year.

It might be announcer hyperbole but Pete Guillen was very positive about Pearl and the Vols.

Well The Vols are for real, they are not as deep as Memphis is but they played a good game inspite of shooting poorly. They whipped Texas and that was nothing but an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament, depending on how they fare in conference play.

asumnu doesnt deserve playing time anymore...

I don't know if you saw the game or listened to it. Everyone for the Vols that took it inside got rejected. Memphis played outstanding interior D.

yeah, then dont let him shoot it. missed layup, missed fade aways, missed ft's, capped off by a missed dunk. never passed the ball and always took the shoot, took more shots then anyone else, he needs to ride the bench...

He ended up with 16 shots . . . It's not like he went AI on us and went 9-30.

Tonight's loss will only make us better. Bring on them allygators. I need some new boots!

:biggrin2:
