If Schiano goes elsewhere or, for some odd reason, stays at Rutgers, who will the U pick up for HC? They have to find someone that can discipline and coach. They don't necessarily need a great recruiter, since the school recruits itself, though.

I still think Barry Alvarez is a very likely candidate.

You think Alvarez would come out of retirement and turn away from Wiscy for Miami? Any other names in circulation? Jimbo Fisher? David Cutcliffe(lol)?

Alvarez and Donna Shalala are exceptionally close. I would be absolutely shocked if Miami hired a coordinator as their head coach.

Yeah, with all that has went on this year, it would be hard for me to stay in that situation as well. It is best for the team that he just leaves and lets new blood in.

How hard will it be for the "u" to find a real coach? With the troublemaking the students get into anyways... I think Coker is the last real good coach to coach at Miami.

My $.02.

Coker has never been a "real good coach." He was a caretaker, nothing more. The "U" will have no problem finding a quality coach.

You need more than a coach to run that program. I'm sure the water boarding methods wouldn't even work down there.

With the tradition at Miami, the amount of talent available in their own backyard, their national recruiting prowess, and their willingness to spend major money on a coach, there are very few jobs in the country from which moving to Miami would not be considered an upgrade.

That was a very strange sentence, but the bottom line is that they should have no problem hiring a premier coach.

Hat, do any of these "surprise" candidates that I thought of just now even enter the convo?

Jimmie Johnson
Jeff Fisher
Jeff Tedford

Jimmie would suck for me, because I would be torn between hating the Canes, and being glad when they won.

Can't imagine JJ coming in off the Three Rings to kiss the a$$es of 17 year old recruits. Fisher isn't going to leave the pros. Tedford would fit the profile Shalala & Co. are looking for, but my guess is that when he leaves Berkeley it will be for the NFL.

If I were Shiano I would stay put. You may disagree but with what he has done, I think they will get more recruits and I do think he could turn Rutgers into a very good team in the next few years.
