I don't know what you were looking at, but that didn't look like Vick, that looked like Ron Mexico to me.

The spot on his mouth is a large piece of a Big Mac left over because he had the munchies. Nothing more, nothing less.

Colin Cowherd hit the nail on the head today. If he wants to smoke a joint on his own time, that's his prerogative . . . but the biggest star in Atlanta sports needs to be shot for dating a woman who post pictures on Myspace.

In that same regard, people were bashing Ben Rothlescheeseburger for not wearing a helmet, but it's his prerogative too. Media hypocrisy.

Isn't dating a woman who posts pictures on Myspace punishment in itself?

That's what Herd's point was. Vick needs to get past extended college and actually date women. As he put it "Ain't no play-ahs on Myspace." :birgits_giggle:

 Answering the original post, I agree that weed should be legalized and atheletes should be free to do what they choose in their off time.

If I owned or coached an NFL team, I wouldn't want my player's getting high. Unfortunately, people that rely on their bodies as much as athletes do are required to take care of themselves. That's why a lot of surgeons don't do activities that might result in a hand injury. I don't see how it's any different to demand the same bodily respect from athletes.

Exactly what physical side effects does marijuana use have?

I'm no doctor, but I'm sure it's not great for your lungs, and you don't want players getting winded out on the field. There are other negative effects, which I don't feel like researching right now. I just don't see why it's a big deal to forbid your players from smoking pot, especially Vick, who admitted not being prepared for the Panthers game last year. People can argue about it all day, and maybe even claim it's not as bad for you as beer, but it's still not good for you no matter how you look at it. Beer may not be any better, but it's not illegal. It's pretty much not going to be possible to regulate alcohol consumption, but I don't think it's unreasonable to forbid your players from partaking in an illegal substance.

In that case, you would forbid your players from drinking alcohol and smoking cigarrettes? What about sleeping with women? I could make a case that a little pent up sexual frustration on game day might add a slight edge to a defense...

The bottom line is, you pay your players for what they do on Sunday. If they are performing at a high level on Sunday, then keep on paying them. If not, trade them.

Well, it seems like Vick is getting paid to get hurt anyway, so he might as well take crappy care of his body, anyway. I did mention that you can't regulate alcohol and cigarettes. Still, marijuana is illegal, so you can forbid that. It's pretty irresponsible if it is marijuana Vick is smoking. He could really hang that team out to dry if he is suspended, a la Ricky Williams. Although in reality, I don't think Vick means as much to the Falcons as Ricky did to the Dolphins. Still, it's not being a very responsible teammate.

Ricky failed multiple drug tests. For all intents and purposes, Vick is smoking a Black and Mild...Maybe the media should be faulting him for his taste in cheap cigars...

I think it's a Black and Mild, too. It's kind of weird that anyone would jump to conclusions like that. I always thought the media was overly praising of Vick, but maybe I was wrong.
