What do y'all think about a rematch for the NC? I guess if USC goes down to ND and Florida goes down to Ark do you think it could happen? I have mixed feelings about it. If Michigan wins is it fair to Ohio State who beat them once already, does Michigan deserve another game with them, or do you let Ohio State play the winner of the FL/ARK game, providing ND beats USC which I think will happen. Opinions anyone.

Philosophically I'm against it 100%, but I don't see how we are going to avoid a rematch. Michigan by far has the best argument of any 1 loss team out there.

If USC wins out, then they should and probably will play Ohio State.

If there is a Michigan/Ohio State rematch, I think Ohio State has earned at least a share of the national title. If tOSU beats Mich twice, the Bucks are the champs without a doubt. If Mich wins, they are split national champs.

It's crazy... every time you think everything has happened to make the BCS look flawed, a situation like this year arises. The only way it can really be 100% effective with no complaining is a situation like last year, and that was the first time it has happened, wasn't it?

Ah, Florida State and Virginia Tech were also undefeated in 1999, right?

So, two years.

The funny thing is that with as much hand wringing as is going on right now, under the old system it would be a foregone conclusion that OSU would be headed to Pasadena to play USC and everybody would be happy.

Yep... the "old way" doesn't seem all that bad now, not that I thought it was bad to begin with.

At least in 2004 two of those three undefeated teams played each other where in the old system there would've been one of them in Pasadena, New Orleans, and Miami.

Being an OU fan, I wish the old system had been in place in '04. OU would have crushed Va Tech in the Orange Bowl, SC would have annihilated Michigan in the Rose Bowl, and Texas would have beaten Auburn in the Sugar Bowl. The Sooners and Trojans would have shared the National Title and Auburn could have consumed a steaming cup of Shut The Hell Up.

That almost brought tears to my eyes. Beautiful.

Michigan has already had its shot at OSU and they blew it. Florida or USC deserve a shot at OSU if they win the rest of their games. If Michigan and OSU play each other again and State wins, then what will that prove? Even if Michigan wins, it doesn't prove that they are better than Florida or USC. I guess you could argue that no matter who plays in the NC, but if UF or USC beats OSU in the NC noone could argue that Michigan deserved it more.

Can someone please come up with a thought provoking argument for why Florida or Arkansas deserve to play for the NC?

Arkansas has the same problem as Notre Dame - a blowout loss.

If USC gets knocked out of the way by Notre Dame and Florida wins out, Florida maybe could ride the sentiment of "We should put Florida in the championship game over Michigan since Michigan already got their shot and they didn't even win their conference."

The case for Florida would involve them navigating through the conference generally accepted as the nation's toughest with only one loss, which involved a couple of highly debateable calls. There's no reason to make a case for Arkansas unless USC loses again.

The case can be made for Arkansas if USC loses and Arkansas wins out. They would be on a 12 game winning streak, 9 straight in the SEC. Would also be 4-1 against ranked teams as opposed to Michigan being 1-1 against ranked teams. These are ranked teams at the time of playing them.

You can't fail to give Michigan credit for being the only team to beat Wisconsin just because the pollsters misjudged the Badgers so badly.

You're right, so that makes them 2-1. Also, not emphasizing the lack of them playing ranked teams, you can only play who is on your schedule. More of pointing out that Arkansas has played a really good schedule.
