He would die rather than say anything less than complimentary about the Lady Vols. It's ok to say that they are struggling. It's ok to question that the coaching staff might make a bad call here and there. No one is perfect.

Listening to him in the morning makes me want to jab a fork in my head.

You better not listen then.

We are so starved for decent sports radio in this market it is incredible. The problem with "the doctor" is that he isn't funny, yet for annoyance to all he thinks he is, as a result, he guffaws at everything that comes out of his own mouth.

Besides, why waste your time listening to his show, you have to work your way through 15 minutes of Lady Vols updates. Sorry LV fans, the strategy of defending lay ups is as interesting as Mickey Dearstone.

Someone has to have an opinion on this guy besides me and Volunteer. Maybe some of you like him?

He actually gets upset that people are excited about the mens team. He said today that the only difference between the men and women's team this year was expectations. Come on.

Jacoby is not bad but hardly ever gets a word in. He was talking about this mens team would be one of those teams that everyone likes and would always remember. Dearstone actually comes back and makes comments like "if the women's team had 23 turnovers on the road and won, the sky is falling" and "yeah, because it's Bruce Pearls first year".

I mean he preaches about being a fan of all sports at Tennessee but he is always knocking the mens program (hypocrite). I think he is an embarrassment to the Vols and the Lady Vols.

Crystal, I have never heard him call a game so I can't comment. :dunno:

When our games are on ESPN, I usually just put the tv on mute and turn on Mickey. He's not the greatest announcer, no...but I would much rather listen to him than the ESPN announcers.

Dave Meyers is pretty good...but I'm not a fan of the others.

I don't know who Ann Meyers is and I would figure if "the doctor" called a game at least he was occupying air with material he doesn't have to come up with on his own

I don't know where that came from...who are you talking about crystal...

Freak,
I'm with ya man. I lived in maryville up until June when i moved down here to tallahassee and i hated hearing the "sports doctor" he's terrible in my opinion. Knoxville is dying for some good sports commentary. we have a pretty good guy down here but it's mainly fsu talk all the time. Anyone remember that guy that used to be in nashville on talk radio...was his name george plaster or something? i liked him, but something happened and i never heard from him again.

I used to think Sports Talk was boring in the afternoon but I now look forward to that in comparison. I think the SportsAnimal all sports station was a great idea but the content has definitely left a lot to be desired.

Yep, so do I. I never listen to ESPN announcers. Their excessive, I'm grasping for youth, hair-dye has effected their brains.

I'll always listen to the VRN announcers. Mickey does a good job.

We are not exactly blessed with the best broadcasters in the business in UT sports at the moment. Mickey is, however, slightly better than Boob Kesling though not much.

I also agree with Crystal - can't stand Ann Myers. Trivia - did you know she was married to Don Drysdale.

Well i left when it was just beginning but I also felt it left a lot to be desired....maybe if they had like an sec wide show they did...they do that here, it's called ACC confrence call-I personally hate it but I would enjoy an SEC show...
I did always like sportstalk and i try to catch it on the net when i can

I kinda like listening to them tell all the reasons the Lady Vols are should lose the game and how they can't play. And then watch them eat Crow at the end when they see the final score. :stinker2:

I dont really like M Dearstone. Freak you are right, he laughs at everything that he says on the air. Well it is not really a laugh it is more like a cackle. He also gives the lady Vols top billing over the mens program. Today and yesterday he was criticizing Pearl and the team for going into the stands. Lame Duck Radio program!!!!

I usually just visit this board to catch up on news, but when I saw the post about the "Doc" I had to chime in. He drives me up the freakin' wall! Jacoby can hardly get a word in and when he does the almighty program director has something negative to say. I have felt like calling in so many times just to ask him to please shut up and let someone else voice their view and opinion. Personally, I like Dave Nathan and was hoping that he would've come in to take hook's place when he left.

The worst thing that happened though occurred during football season. The day before a big SEC match-up, the genius program director devoted his hour to having the 3 lady vol assistant coaches on to talk about the upcoming season. I enjoy hearing UPDATES about the Lady Vols, but please take all of your personal interest out of the radio programming.

Now, if he would just read this!!!

Boy, do I feel better!

Thanks for starting this thread

I noticed the same things as well listening this morning. He doesn't let Jeff Jacoby talk. At this point I wonder why he even has someone in the booth with him. And then he started playing the Lady Vols against the guys by saying if the men's team had lost CJ Watson they wouldn't be that good. You can tell the guy is envious of all the talk of the men's program and is a women's program shill. I support the Lady Vols, but I think it is safe to say most everyone wants to talk about the men's team and what they are doing right now. He should quit trying to steer the conversations toward what he wants to talk about.

Freak, I usually listen to the "Animal" on the way to work and, yes, there are a few conspicuous scars on my temples that vaguely resemble linear prong marks. Good thing I usually eat with plastic forks in the car.

Wasn't that him that was claiming that he could hit Roger Clemens and our softball pitcher (brain fart = forgot her name, sorry) the other day? I think he should stand in there sometime and we could pay the Rocket to deliver a little of his signature "high heat."

I love the Vols and the Ladies are included, but he comes across as a wussy apologist, IMO.

Oh, AND he needs to change his nickname.

I may need to try the plastic for thing.

I don't think I heard the Roger Clemens bit. If he said that then he is even farther gone then I imagined.
