To any musicians out there, I'm looking to go buy a pair of dynamic mics for live vocals on the cheap. Ceiling of $50-ish per mic. Just put out any ideas of good ones. Something decent that will last a moderate amount of time.

You're best off just buying Shure SM-58s. You can buy them used almost anywhere. They will last forever.

I know they go on ebay all day for about 50-60 used. You can also find them at pawn shops and consigned/used music stores everywhere. Maybe I'm spoiled being in Nashville, but they seem to be everywhere here.

Honestly, if you're going to buy a mic, you need to just save up the money and invest in the 58's. Otherwise you're just wasting the money on something that wont be as good or as durable and last as long.

I hear nothing but good about the 58's. However, I think the Sennheisers (835?) are supposed to be much more durable with very comparable sound. I was just shopping a few weeks ago but my purchase got put on hold for a bit.

Milo, I'll talk to my brother later today and see if he has any other suggestions. He may even have some barely used ones and is not too far away from you.

I talked to my brother and he said to drop the cash on the SM58's. You should be able to find a million of them on Ebay as it's the most popular mic in the world right now.

For true "budget:" if you want something new, Samson makes some decent affordable stuff. Definitely not up to par with Shure, Sennheiser, and Audix, though.

He also said if he comes across anything used he'll let me know.

Yeah, I'm just looking for something to hold me over until I can get 58's, which I do plan on buying. My old set of mics got stolen after a gig. I just haven't bothered replacing them yet, 'cause my band was taking a break after that anyhow.

I'm pretty proud of my PA setup. Got people constantly wanting to borrow it. Yamaha EMX66M powered mixer with BR15 cabinets and BR12 monitors. I just used an assortment of mics that were mine or friends' until mine got stolen...

I take it your voice can penetrate the volume of two half stack guitar amps, a large bass amp and a drum kit then?

If you can sing over a death metal band, I will be impressed.

If it's a death metal band, all he needs to do is scream and grumble anyway. :D

How about operatic death metal? I think that we could be onto something here...

 That would be a new one for me.

Have you ever heard opera trance?

:devilsmoke:

Is opera trance opera singing with techno music? I haven't heard of opera trance, but I might know it under a different name..

Yah, that's it. I used to have an mp3 of "Phantom" with a crappy house beat. The Spin instructor at my old gym used the track for a sprint.

You can see how his shenanigans work on the ladies (check the day and the time, and then what he's doing right now). . . .

I have heard plenty of Gregorian Chants and techno. I haven't heard the trance all that much. I actually thought about doing some of that with some friends in my spare time in undergrad school, but then the drugs* wore off before we could do anything... :laugh1:

I was only joking about the drugs folks....or was I?

*drugs are bad and you should just say NO!*
