Middle Tennessee will remain in Conference USA after considering an exit to the Mid-American Conference.

University president Sidney McPhee said in a statement that Conference USA's recent additions of Jacksonville State, Liberty, New Mexico State and Sam Houston State will help stabilize the league. Conference USA has lost eight current members in the latest round of realignment. Six schools -- Charlotte, Florida Atlantic, North Texas, Rice, UAB and UTSA -- are set to join the American Athletic Conference, while Marshall and Southern Miss are headed to the Sun Belt.

They’d be a weird fit in the MAC. Though CUSA is going to be a wacky conference. Liberty, FIU, and New Mexico St? Liberty actually has very solid athletics at the moment. I’m a little surprised they wouldn’t have been targeted by the AAC.

I believe Middle Tennessee made the right decision. Much of their recruiting is from Ga & Fla. Parents of those players aren’t going to want to go to Ohio, Michigan, etc to watch their sons play. They’ll stay in the south, playing teams in the south with Jax st., FIU, etc.

All this moving around by different teams to different conferences means you will need a scorecard for the next few years as these changes occur.
